Abstract

We demonstrated experimentally the generation of bright amplitude-squeezed light by a continuous-wave quasi-phase-matched degenerate optical parametric deampl ifier based on periodically poled KTiOPO4The threshold of the optic al parame tric oscillator is 35mW. With the pump power of 20mW, the amplitude noise re duction of 223dB is observed directly. It is significant that the amplitude noise reduction of 217dB can be observed only at the pump power of 8mW.

3 dB squeezing by single-pass parametric amplification in a periodically poled KTiOPO_4 crystal

Takuya Hirano, K. Kotani, T. Ishibashi +2 more

We present the experimental observation of pulsed squeezed light from a degenerate optical parametric amplifier pumped by a second harmonic of a continuous-wave mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser. With a single pass through a 10 mm long periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal, the classical parametric gain of 11 is observed. The measured noise reduction in the quiet quadrature is 3.2 dB below the shot-noise level.

Squeezing at 946nm with periodically poled KTiOPO4

Takao Aoki, Go Takahashi, Akira Furusawa

We report generation of squeezed vacuum in sideband modes of continuous-wave light at 946nm using a periodically poled KTiOPO (4) crystal in an optical parametric oscillator. At the pump power of 250mW, we observe the squeezing level of -5.6+/- 0.1dB and the anti-squeezing level of +12.7+/- 0.1dB. The pump power dependence of the observed squeezing/anti-squeezing levels agrees with theoretically calculated values when phase fluctuation of locking is taken into account.

Green bright squeezed light from a cw periodically poled KTP second harmonic generator

Ulrik L. Andersen, Preben Buchhave

We present the experimental observation of bright amplitude squeezed light from a singly resonant second harmonic generator (SHG) based on a periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystal. Contrary to conventional SHG, the interacting waves in this device couple efficiently using quasi phase matching (QPM) and more importantly QPM allows access to higher valued elements of the nonlinear tensor than is possible under the constraint of birefringence phase matching. We observe a noise reduction of 13% below the shot noise limit in the generated second harmonic field. This noise reduction is greater than what could be expected using normal birefringence phase matched KTP with the same experimental parameters. Excellent agreement between experiment and theory is found.

Bright squeezed-light generation by a continuous-wave semimonolithic parametric amplifier

K. Schneider, Robert Bruckmeier, Hauke Hansen +2 more

Continuous-wave amplitude-squeezed light at 1064 nm has been generated with excellent long-term stability by use of a dual-port type I degenerate optical parametric amplifier pumped by a frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser. A seed wave at 1064 nm is resonantly injected through the low-transmission cavity port, whereas the parametrically deamplified and squeezed output wave is extracted from the high-transmission port. Amplitude noise reduction of as much as 4.3 dB is observed directly at an output power of 0.15 mW. Stable noise suppression exceeding 3.8 dB is obtained for several hours by phase locking of the pump wave. The longterm stability and simplicity make this device suitable for sub-shot-noise metrology.

We report generation of squeezed light at 860 nm by utilizing a subthreshold optical parametric oscillator with a periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal as a nonlinear medium. At the pump power of 130 mW we observed the squeezing level of −9.55 dB and antisqueezing level of +16.36 dB.

Generation of bright squeezed light at 1.06 μm using cascaded nonlinearities in a triply resonant cw periodically-poled lithium niobate optical parametric oscillator

K. S. Zhang, T. Coudreau, M. Martinelli +2 more

We have used an ultralow threshold continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator (OPO) to reduce the quantum fluctuations of the reflected pump beam below the shot noise limit. The OPO consisted of a triply resonant cavity containing a periodically poled lithium niobate crystal pumped by a Nd:YAG (yttrium aluminum garnets) laser and giving signal and idler wavelengths close to $2.12\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{m}$ and a threshold as low as $300\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{W}.$ We detected the quantum fluctuations of the pump beam reflected by the OPO using a slightly modified homodyne detection technique. The measured noise reduction was $30%$ (inferred noise reduction at the output of the OPO $38%).$
