Abstract

The quantum key distribution (QKD) allows two parties to share a secret key by typically making use of a one-way quantum channel. However, the two-way QKD has its own unique advantages, which means the two-way QKD has become a focus recently. To improve the practical performance of the two-way QKD, we present a security analysis of a two-way QKD protocol based on the decoy method with heralded single-photon sources (HSPSs). We make use of two approaches to calculate the yield and the quantum bit error rate of single-photon and two-photon pulses. Then we present the secret key generation rate based on the GLLP formula. The numerical simulation shows that the protocol with HSPSs has an advantage in the secure distance compared with weak coherent state sources. In addition, we present the final secret key generation rate of the LM05 protocol with finite resources by considering the statistical fluctuation of the yield and the error rate.

Performance analysis of decoy state quantum key distribution using two kinds of photon sources

Wang Han, Yan Lian-Shan, Pan Wei +3 more

Since the single photon is easy to attenuate and be disturbed, its key generation rate and transmission distance in quantum communication systems are generally limited. In contrast, weak coherent pulse (WCP) and heralded single photon source (HSPS) exhibit higher feasibility than the single photon source in quantum key distributions (QKD). We compare the performances of QKD using these two kinds of photon sources and decoy state method, incorporating data-postprocessing methods including the Lütkenhaus scheme and Gottesman-Lo-Lütkenhaus- Preskill (GLLP) scheme. Simulation results indicate that QKD using HSPS can transmit longer distance than using WCP with lower overall quantum bit error rate (QBER) at the same transmission distance, albeit with relatively low key generation rate.

Secure Communication with One Decoy State and Two Way Quantum Key Distribution Scheme

Mohd Fared Abdul Khir, Iskandar Bahari, M. N. Mohd Zain +1 more

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) provides a mean for unconditionally secure secret key sharing for secure communication. For a practical QKD system, the recently proposed decoy state protocol has become an essential tool. In this work, we conduct numerical analysis against several bounds for one decoy state with two way QKD protocol and compare their performance in terms of key rate and maximum secure distance.

Practical non-orthogonal decoy state quantum key distribution with heralded single photon source

Mi Jing-Long, Wang Fa-Qiang, Lin Qing-Qun +1 more

Recently the performance of the quantum key distribution (QKD) is substantially improved by the decoy state method and the non-orthogonal encoding protocol, separately. In this paper, a practical non-orthogonal decoy state protocol with a heralded single photon source (HSPS) for QKD is presented. The protocol is based on 4 states with different intensities, i.e. one signal state and three decoy states. The signal state is for generating keys; the decoy states are for detecting the eavesdropping and estimating the fraction of single-photon and two-photon pulses. We have discussed three cases of this protocol, i.e. the general case, the optimal case and the special case. Moreover, the final key rate over transmission distance is simulated. For the low dark count of the HSPS and the utilization of the two-photon pulses, our protocol has a higher key rate and a longer transmission distance than any other decoy state protocol.

Quantum key distribution in real life

Abstract: The quantum key distribution (QKD) technique establishes secret keys shared between two communicating parties. Theoretically, unconditional security provided by QKD is guaranteed by the fundamental laws of quantum physics. in the real life, it is still possible to obtain unconditionally secure QKD, even with (phase randomized) attenuated laser pulses, as theoretically demonstrated by Gottesman-Lo-L¨utkenhaus-Preskill (GLLP). However, one must pay a steep price by placing severe limits on the distance and the key generation rate. These problems were solved using the decoy state method introduced by Hwang. In this paper, we have proposed a method to estimate parameters of the decoy state method based on two decoy state protocol for both BB84 and SARG04. The vacuum and weak decoy state protocol has been introduced as a special case of two decoy states protocol. This method has given different lower bound of the fraction of single-photon counts (y1), the fraction of two-photon counts (y2), the upper bound QBER of single-photon pulses (e1), the upper bound QBER of two-photon pulses (e2) and the lower bound of key generation rate for both BB84 and SARG04. The fiber based QKD systems also have been simulated using the proposed method for BB84 and SARG04. The numerical simulation has shown that the fiber based QKD systems using the proposed method for BB84 are able to achieve both a higher secret key rate and greater secure distance than that of SARG04. Decoy state quantum key distribution with dual detectors heralded single photon source

Mi Jing-Long, Wang Fa-Qiang, Lin Qing-Qun +3 more

Decoy state has recently been proved as a useful method for substantially improving the performance of quantum key distribution (QKD). Considering the imperfect extinction ratio and the spontaneous emission of the practical Laser, vacuum states are not prepared easily. So in this paper, the optimal situation of the decoy state protocol applied to the QKD system with heralded single photon source (HSPS) is complemented and extended. The two weak decoy state protocol and the one decoy state protocol are proposed. At last, the theory of “dual detectors" is combined with the QKD system with HSPS. In the simulation, the secure distance is up to 2215 km, which is approximately 50 km more than that of the on-off detectors.

New decoy state quantum key distribution for increasing the security communication distance

Zhao Nan

To increase the security distance of quantum communication,a new scheme of decoy state quantum key distribution with a modified coherent state is proposed. The probability of multi-photon pulse in weak coherent source can be decreased by canceling two photon pulses to improve the security distance.Based on the math model of the decoy state QKD,the formula for the yield and error rate of the single photon pulse with the Modified Coherent State is deduced, and substituted in GLLP to calculate the generation rate of quantum keys. Results show that the decoy state with the Modified Coherent State can increase the secure communication distance about 10%,which is very close to that of the perfect decoy state QKD.
