Monte Carlo simulations of the Ising model on a square lattice with random Gaussian interactions

Abstract

The paper shows Monte Carlo simulations of the Ising model on a square lattice with no external magnetic field. In particular, the uncertainty of the spin coupling interactions in the Ising model has been considered. The influence on the phase transition of the Gaussian noise in the spin coupling values has been demonstrated.

First-order phase transition in a 2D random-field Ising model with conflicting dynamics

Nuno Crokidakis

The effects of locally random magnetic fields are considered in a nonequilibrium Ising model defined on a square lattice with nearest-neighbor interactions. In order to generate the random magnetic fields, we have considered random variables { h } that change randomly with time according to a double-Gaussian probability distribution, which consists of two single-Gaussian distributions, centered at + h o and − h o , with the same width σ. This distribution is very general and can recover in appropriate limits the bimodal distribution ( ) and the single-Gaussian one ( h o = 0). We performed Monte Carlo simulations in lattices with linear sizes in the range L = 32–512. The system exhibits ferromagnetic and paramagnetic steady states. Our results suggest the occurrence of first-order phase transitions between the above-mentioned phases at low temperatures and large random-field intensities h o for some small values of the width σ. By means of finite size scaling, we estimate the critical exponents in the low-field region, where we have continuous phase transitions. In addition, we show a sketch of the phase diagram of the model for some values of σ.

Phase Transitions of Random Binary Magnetic Square Lattice Ising Systems

I. Q. Sikakana

Binary magnetic square lattice Ising system with nearest neighbour interactions were simulated using the Monte Carlo technique. Two types of ions were randomly distributed on the lattice sites, one type interacting ferromagnetic and the other antiferromagnetic. A phase diagram of the ion concentration dependent critical temperature, Tc was deduced. Combined Bethe Peierls approximation and Mean Field theory phase transition results were compared to the results of the present method. An improved accuracy of the approximations of the critical temperatures was observed. The Monte Carlo simulation is thus shown to be a more reliable method for obtaining the physical properties of the random binary two-dimensional Ising system. Monte Carlo simulation of an antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Ising system on the square lattice

S. Sudhagar, N. Baskaran

We have studied the thermodynamic and magnetic properties of the spin 1/2 XXZ Ising model on a two dimensional square lattice using Monte Carlo simulation, in the presence of transverse magnetic field for varying lattice sizes (N=8-40) and exchange interaction strengths. The variations in specific heat and susceptibility for different N values is almost negligible, except for N=8. Interestingly, the magnetization showed large variation with N. This could be attributed to the increase in the disorder of spin alignment with increasing N.

Magnetic Properties of a Square Lattice Ising Ferromagnetic System for Different Spins with Monte Carlo Simulation

A. Azdouh, Said Harir, Anouar Elidrysy +3 more

Using the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method combined with the Metropolis algorithm, we explore the magnetic properties of a two-dimensional (2D) spin system with spins 1, 2 and 3. The adapted simulation to the Ising model aims to study the impact of the correction term a of the interaction with second neighbors and the crystal field D on the critical temperature [Formula: see text] of the 2D anisotropic square lattice for different integer values of spins. The obtained results demonstrate that the critical temperature [Formula: see text] is significantly affected by the competing interactions between the anisotropy parameter, second-neighbor interaction and the crystal field. The considered model exhibits a critical phase transition regardless of the spin S value where the critical temperature increases with the value of S. Note that this phase transition occurs under the condition [Formula: see text]. Moreover, the obtained results show that the complex interactions give rise to a variety of phase diagrams, thereby revealing the richness of possible magnetic behaviors in the studied system.

Monte Carlo simulations in a disordered binary Ising model

Dorilson Silva Cambui, A.S. de Arruda, Maurício Godoy

In this work we study a disordered binary Ising model on the square lattice. The model system consists of two different particles with spin-1/2 and spin-1, which are randomly distributed on the lattice. It has been considered only spin nearest-neighbor exchange interactions with $J>0$. This system can represent a disordered magnetic binary alloy $A_{x}B_{1-x}$, obtained from the high temperature quenching of a liquid mixture. The results were obtained by the use of Monte Carlo simulations for several lattice sizes $L$, temperature $T$ and concentration $x$ of ions $A$ with spin-1/2. We found its critical temperature, through the reduced fourth-order Binder cumulant for the several values of the concentration $x$ of particles (spin-1/2, spin-1), and also the magnetization, the susceptibility and the specific heat as a function of temperature $T$.
