Abstract

In this work we study a disordered binary Ising model on the square lattice. The model system consists of two different particles with spin-1/2 and spin-1, which are randomly distributed on the lattice. It has been considered only spin nearest-neighbor exchange interactions with $J>0$. This system can represent a disordered magnetic binary alloy $A_{x}B_{1-x}$, obtained from the high temperature quenching of a liquid mixture. The results were obtained by the use of Monte Carlo simulations for several lattice sizes $L$, temperature $T$ and concentration $x$ of ions $A$ with spin-1/2. We found its critical temperature, through the reduced fourth-order Binder cumulant for the several values of the concentration $x$ of particles (spin-1/2, spin-1), and also the magnetization, the susceptibility and the specific heat as a function of temperature $T$.

CRITICAL BEHAVIOR OF THE QUENCHED RANDOM MIXED-SPIN ISING MODEL

Maurício Godoy, W. Figueiredo

In this work, we simulated a quenched random mixed-spin Ising model on the square lattice. The model system consists of two different particles with spins σ = 1/2 (states ±1/2) and S = 1 (states ±1, 0). These particles are randomly distributed on the lattice, and we considered only nearest-neighbor interactions. This model can represent a random magnetic binary alloy AxB1-x, obtained from the high-temperature quenching of a liquid mixture. We performed Monte Carlo simulations for several lattice sizes and temperatures, and we found its critical temperature through the reduced fourth-order cumulant. We also determined the magnetization, the susceptibility, and the specific heat as a function of temperature. We used finite-size scaling arguments to estimate the critical exponents β, γ, and ν of the model. We showed that the quenched model is in the same universality class of the two-dimensional pure Ising model. We also investigated the sample to sample fluctuations that occur in the values of the thermodynamic quantities in order to describe the self-averaging properties at the critical point.

MONTE CARLO SIMULATIONS OF A DISORDERED BINARY ISING MODEL

Dorilson Silva Cambui, A.S. de Arruda, Maurício Godoy

A disordered binary Ising model, with only nearest-neighbor spin exchange interactions J > 0 on the square lattice, is studied through Monte Carlo simulations. The system consists of two different particles with spin-1/2 and spin-1, randomly distributed on the lattice. We found the critical temperatures for several values of the concentration x of spin-1/2 particles, and also the corresponding critical exponents.

Phase Transitions of Random Binary Magnetic Square Lattice Ising Systems

I. Q. Sikakana

Binary magnetic square lattice Ising system with nearest neighbour interactions were simulated using the Monte Carlo technique. Two types of ions were randomly distributed on the lattice sites, one type interacting ferromagnetic and the other antiferromagnetic. A phase diagram of the ion concentration dependent critical temperature, Tc was deduced. Combined Bethe Peierls approximation and Mean Field theory phase transition results were compared to the results of the present method. An improved accuracy of the approximations of the critical temperatures was observed. The Monte Carlo simulation is thus shown to be a more reliable method for obtaining the physical properties of the random binary two-dimensional Ising system. Critical dynamics of disordered two-dimensional Ising systems: a Monte Carlo study

Vladimir V. Prudnikov, O. N. Markov

The critical relaxation of the magnetization in a two-dimensional Ising model with quenched random non-magnetic impurities has been studied by numerical simulation. A squared lattice of size 400 2 with spin concentrations p=1.0; 0.95, 0,9, 0.85, 0.8, 0.75 and 0.7 was considered. The dynamical critical exponent z was determined by the Monte Carlo method combined with the dynamical renormalization group method. The following values were received for z(p): z(1)=2.24+or-0.07, z(0.95)=2.24+or-0.06, z(0.9)=2.24+or-0.06, z(0.85)=2.38+or-0.05, z(0.8)=2.51+or-0.06, z(0.75)=2.66+or-0.07 and z(0.7)=2.88+or-0.06. A singular dynamic scaling behaviour with z=A' mod ln(p-p c ) mod +B' was found for systems with spin concentrations p<or=0.85 near the percolation threshold p c , where A'=0.56+or-0.07 and B'=1.62+or-0.07 are temperature-independent constants.

Critical Behavior Simulation of the Two-Dimensional Ising Model—A Computational Physics Study Based on the Monte Carlo Method

佳钢 李

To demonstrate the application of computational physics in modern statistical physics, this paper investigates the critical behavior of a finite-size ferromagnetic system based on the two-dimensional square-lattice Ising model.A nearest-neighbor Ising Hamiltonian is constructed, and periodic boundary conditions are adopted to reduce finite-boundary effects. The Metropolis Monte Carlo algorithm is used to sample spin configurations at different temperatures, while energy, magnetization, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and Binder cumulant are calculated to describe the transition from an ordered state to a disordered state. The simulation results show that the system exhibits clear long-range order at low temperatures, where the order parameter remains high.As temperature increases, thermal fluctuations become stronger, magnetization decreases rapidly, and the system gradually evolves into a disordered state. The specific heat curve shows a pronounced peak at approximately (T = 2.269), while the susceptibility peak shifts slightly toward the high-temperature side due to finite-size effects and the discrete temperature grid.Overall, the simulated critical region is consistent with the theoretical critical temperature of the two-dimensional square-lattice Ising model.Spin-configuration analysis further reveals enhanced fluctuations and domain reconstruction near the critical region. In addition, a thermalization criterion and an extended sampling test for L = 48 near the critical region are added to examine the influence of finite sampling and equilibration. These results indicate that Monte Carlo simulation of the two-dimensional Ising model can effectively reproduce continuous phase transition, critical fluctuation and finite-size effects, providing a basic computational case for understanding critical phenomena in complex systems and data-driven physical analysis.

Magnetic properties and critical behavior of disordered Fe 1−x Ru x alloys: A Monte Carlo approach

I.J.L. Diaz, N. S. Branco

We study the critical behavior of a quenched random-exchange Ising model with competing interactions on a bcc lattice. This model was introduced in the study of the magnetic behavior of Fe(1-x)Ru(x) alloys for ruthenium concentrations x=0%, x=4%, x=6%, and x=8%. Our study is carried out within a Monte Carlo approach, with the aid of a re-weighting multiple histogram technique. By means of a finite-size scaling analysis of several thermodynamic quantities, taking into account up to the leading irrelevant scaling field term, we find estimates of the critical exponents α, β, γ, and ν, and of the critical temperatures of the model. Our results for x=0% are in excellent agreement with those for the three-dimensional pure Ising model in the literature. We also show that our critical exponent estimates for the disordered cases are consistent with those reported for the transition line between paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases of both randomly dilute and ±J Ising models. We compare the behavior of the magnetization as a function of temperature with that obtained by Paduani and Branco (2008), qualitatively confirming the mean-field result. However, the comparison of the critical temperatures obtained in this work with experimental measurements suggest that the model (initially obtained in a mean-field approach) needs to be modified.
