Abstract

We analyze the generation of photonic entanglement in a two-level atom placed in a cross cavity, by means of the Jaynes Cummings model. Our configuration proved to be a suitable tool to study entangled revivals.

Dynamics of a two-level atom in a double perpendicular cavity

We propose a variation of the Jaynes-Cummings Model (JCM), which consists of a Two-Level Atom (TLA) within a cross cavity configuration. This new geometry is a suitable tool to understand the origin of new QED features that the original JCM does not reveal, showing revivals in cases where they are not expected to appear. Bound entanglement in the Jaynes–Cummings model

Nicolás Quesada, Anna Sanpera

We study in detail entanglement properties of the Jaynes-Cummings model assuming a two-level atom (qubit) interacting with the first $N$ levels of an electromagnetic field mode (qudit) in a cavity. In the Jaynes-Cummings model, the number operator is the conserved quantity that allows for the exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian and thus we study states that commute with this conserved quantity and whose structure is preserved under the Jaynes-Cummings dynamics. Contrary to the common belief, we show that there are bound entangled states that satisfy the symmetries imposed by the conservation of the number of excitations when $N>3$. Furthermore we show that \emph{the Jaynes-Cummings interaction can be used to generate bound-entanglement} between the atom and the mode.

Fractional revivals in the Jaynes-Cummings model

Ilya Sh. Averbukh

It is shown that the phenomenon of fractional revivals, which was observed in recent laser experiments on atomic wave packets, determines the long-time behavior of the Jaynes-Cummings model for a two-level atom interacting with a quantized cavity field. This provides an alternative mechanism for the generation of coherent superpositions of macroscopically distinguishable states of the field (so-called ``optical Schr\"odinger cats'') via resonant processes. The emergence of these states is associated with the appearance of atomic inversion revivals following each other 2, 3, 4, . . . times faster than the usual ones.
