We demonstrate slow light via population oscillation in semiconductor quantum-well structures for the first time. A group velocity as low as 9600 m/s is inferred from the experimentally measured dispersive characteristics. The transparency window exhibits a bandwidth as large as 2 GHz.

The group velocity of a laser pulse in semiconductor quantum dots has been investigated and both slow and fast light propagation were observed experimentally. The phenomena will be explained directly in time-domain in this paper.

We consider a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with a slow-light medium in one of its arms. We show that the frequency/wavelength sensitivity is enhanced enormously because of the large difference in group indices between the two arms.
