Abstract

We use an experimental procedure first proposed by Basov et al 1 to measure the fidelity of the optical wavefront reconstruction process of phase conjugation due to degenerate four-wave mixing by photorefraction in a poled single crystal of p-type BaTiC3. A similar procedure was recently used to measure the phase-conjugate fidelity in stimulated Brillouin scattering.2

A continuous compound four-wave mixing mechanism for self-pumped phase conjugation in BaTiO 3 crystals

Ping Xie, Jian-Hua Dai, Wang Peng-ye +2 more

A continuous compound four-wave mixing mechanism for self-pumped phase conjugation in photorefractive crystals is presented. The coupled-beam equations of this mechanism are solved numerically when depletion of the forward going beam is neglected. The experiment in a Ce-doped BaTiO 3 crystal is performed, with the stable phase conjugate reflectivity of as much as ⩾ 80%. The curved high output phase conjugate intensity are explained using the numerical results.

Heterodyne Interferometer with Photorefractive BGO Crystals

Gustavo Rodrigues Zurita, Richard M. Kowarschik, Andreas A. Erdmann

In this paper we show that it is possible to make a heterodyne interferometer with a single photorefractive BGO crystal using the technique of moving gratings. The main problems of obtaining good fidelity of the phase conjugate wavefront with such a method are discussed theoretically within the framework of the well-known scalar approximation to the photorefractive four-wave mixing process (no absorption, no pump depletion). Experimental phase measurements for obtaining the phase distribution of the signal wave are also presented.

Forward Phase-Conjugate Wave in Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing (DFWM) in Photorefractive Crystalline Slab

H. Y. Zhang, X. H. He, Sing Hai Tang

DFWM as an useful tool to generate phase conjugate waves has recently been the subject of intensive study. In particular photorefractive crystals such as LiNbO3, KNbO3, BaTiO3 and SBN are widely used[1]. Among the published papers on DFWM most are concerned with backward phase conjugate waves and only a few with forward phase conjugate, waves.[2,3] In both of these papers the intensity of the forward phase conjugate wave has not been investigated. We report here a systematic study of the intensity of forward phase conjugate wave.

The temporal behavior of optical phase conjugation by single-grating anisotropic four-wave mixing in photorefractive crystals is studied. Numerical evidence for optical instabilities of the phase-conjugate wave amplitude is shown.

Fidelity of optical phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing in semiconductor glasses and ruby

Solomon M. Saltiel, B. Van Wonterghem, Dimitri A. Parthenopoulos +2 more

The fidelity of phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing in ruby and semiconductor-doped glasses has been measured by means of our own modified Twyman–Green interferometer [Opt. Lett. 14, 183 (1989)] implementing two phase conjugate mirrors. It is shown that the fidelity of phase conjugators with an OG530 color filter as the nonlinear medium reaches a value of 99%. The fidelity of ruby is also reported. Additionally the effect of the recording system on the value of the fidelity is discussed.
