Experimental investigation of the light shift effect in an optical-magnetic double resonance system

C J Li, Sining Huang

We demonstrate an experimental scheme for studying the light shift effect in an optical magnetic double resonance system by using 4 He atoms. The dependences of the light shift caused by left- and right-circularly polarized laser light, respectively with laser frequency detuning and laser power are investigated, which show good agreement with theoretical analysis. Based on these, the above parameters are optimized in order to reduce light shift effect for a typical optical magnetic double resonance system.

Analysis of the light shift in a Rb atomic clock pumped by detuned laser

勲 松田, 静夫 山口, Isao Matsuda +1 more

ln recent years, laser pumped Rb atomic clocks have been numerously studied and developed to reduce "light shift" and increase the accuracy and stability of the frequency. Previously, we reoorted on the measurement of the linewidths and S/N of the optical-microwave double resonance signal and the light shift in a Rb atomic clock pumped by a stabilized diode laser. In this paper, the light shift was numerically calculated by using the theory proposed by Cohen-Tannoudji & Barrat. Furthermore, contributions of the laser power and frequency detuning to the light shift were also estimated to attain the microwave frequency stability as high as 10^<-12>.

Light shift manipulation and suppression in a double pass optical-magnetic double resonance system

Teng Wu, Xiang Peng, Hong Mei Guo

A double pass optical-magnetic double resonance system is proposed and applied for observing and manipulating the light shift in metastable . By adjusting the degree of overlap in space between the incident and retro-reflected laser beams, the manipulation on light shift is realized and a flat range for light shift insensitive to optical frequency detuning can be formed. A simple hole-burning model based on velocity-selective optical pumping, including the velocity diffusion effect caused by velocity-changing collisions, is adopted to qualitatively clarify the light shift observed in the double pass system.
