A Photon Switch Based on the Quantum Nonlocality

Abstract

We present a scheme to realize a photon switch for controlling the state of the field in a cavity between a coherent state and a Schrödinger cat state. In the scheme, an atom crosses two cavities continually. The atom is resonant with the first cavity mode, and off-resonant with the second cavity mode. The detection of the atomic state leaves the two cavity modes in an entangled state. We can determine whether the second cavity field is in a coherent state or in a Schrödinger cat state via the detection of the photon in the first cavity.

Generation of entangled Fock states of two nonlocal cavity modes with different frequencies

Guo Guang-Can, Zheng Shi-Biao

We present a method to generate entangled Fock states of two nonlocal cavity modes with different frequencies. We send an atom with three levels g, e , and f across two cavities. The atomic transition frequency between level g and e is resonant with the first cavity frequency, while the atomic transition frequency between level g and f is resonant with the second cavity frequency. The detection of the atomic state leaves the pure field in an entangled Fock state.

Efficient generation of Bell-cat states in remote cavities

Ying Zhang

In the context of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED),a potential scheme is proposed to generate entangled coherent states. The scheme includes twice interactions of two-level atoms with cavities. In the first interaction, two atoms are sent into a microwave cavity with the large detuning respectively. And then the second interaction is that the two atoms enter another microwave cavity and are driven by a resonant classical field meantime. When we choose the proper interaction time and make measurement on the two atoms, the two microwave cavity mode fields are determinatively entangled. In addition,it is easy to generalize the scheme to multi-cavity and multi-atom.

Teleporting the Schrödinger Cat State

M. H. Y. Moussa, B. Baseia

We present a scheme for the teleportation of a coherent state or a mesoscopic superposition of coherent states — the Schrödinger-cat state. The proposal involves a mesoscopic-correlated state as the quantum channel which is generated through an adaptation of a quantum switch scheme. The required joint measurement performed in a mesoscopic Bell basis is accomplished through a technique for detection of a Schrödinger-cat state "trapped" in a cavity.

A scheme for the generation of multi-mode Schrödinger cat states

Shi-Biao Zheng

A scheme is proposed for the generation of superpositions of multi-mode coherent states, i.e. multi-mode Schrödinger cat states. In the scheme a -type three-level atom is sent through many cavities filled with coherent fields. The whole system is entangled via the Raman atom-field interaction. Then the detection of the atom leaves the cavity system in a multi-mode cat state. Under certain conditions, such a cat state is identical to a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state and thus can be used to test local realistic theories.

Probing the quantum state in a cavity via atomic two-photon transitions

Si-de Du, Zhou Lu-wei, Zhizhan Xu +2 more

This paper contains a theoretical treatment of a scheme for determining phase-dependent features of a single mode of quantized light fields in general states. The proposal involves using a three-level atom, in a cascade configuration, as a detector. The cascade atom, which is on two-photon resonance with the field, is prepared in a coherent superposition of the upper and lower levels, and detection involves measuring the probability of the cascade atom being in the upper level. The results depend on the phase difference between the amplitudes for the field being in N and N + 2 photon states in the number state basis, and are important in describing nonclassical states, such as squeezed and Schrödinger cat states. The analysis is based on a standard dressed atom model approach and a Fourier treatment of the measured signal. The experimental possibilities of realizing this scheme are also discussed.

Alternative Scheme for Generation of Atomic Schrödinger Cat States and Entangled Coherent States in an Optical Cavity

Lin Xiu

We propose an alternative scheme for generation of atomic Schrödinger cat states in an optical cavity. In the scheme the atoms are always populated in the two ground states and the cavity remains in the vacuum state. Therefore, the scheme is insensitive to the atomic spontaneous emission and cavity decay. The scheme may be generalized to the deterministic generation of entangled coherent states for two atomic samples. In contrast with the previously proposed schemes of [Commun. Theor. Phys. 40 (2003) 103 and Chin. Phys. B 18 (2009) 1045], the required interaction time in our scheme is greatly shortened and thus the decoherence can be effectively suppressed.
