Tensor product of quantum logics

Sylvia Pulmannová

A quantum logic is the couple (L,M) where L is an orthomodular σ-lattice and M is a strong set of states on L. The Jauch–Piron property in the σ-form is also supposed for any state of M. A ‘‘tensor product’’ of quantum logics is defined. This definition is compared with the definition of a free orthodistributive product of orthomodular σ-lattices. The existence and uniqueness of the tensor product in special cases of Hilbert space quantum logics and one quantum and one classical logic are studied.

Further results on majority-logic decoding of product codes (Corresp.)

Nguyen Quang Đuc, L.V. Skattebol

In this correspondence additional results on majority-logic decoding of product codes are presented. If one of the component codes is decodable using Rudolph's nonorthogonal algorithm, and the other using Reed-Massey'sL-step orthogonalization, then the resulting product code is majority-logic decodable inLsteps, where nonorthogonal checks are used in the first step and orthogonal checks in the remaining steps. If the component codes are both decodable using Rudolph's algorithm, the product code is majority-logic decodable using the same procedure.

The Tensor Product of Operational Logics

Robin H. Lock

The concept of an operational logic has been developed by Randall and Foulis ([l]-[4], [10], [11]) as a part of a larger effort to obtain a formalism suitable for expressing, comparing, and evaluating various approaches to empirical science, statistics, and in particular, quantum mechanics. The structure of these logics is similar to that of an orthomodular partially ordered set which is often used as a model for quantum logics. However, the operational logic is a more general structure which, among other features, allows for the creation of a tensor product of logics to represent the coupling of physical systems. Randall and Foulis have shown that, given certain reasonable physical constraints, such a product is not possible within the category of orthomodular posets [12].
