Doppler-free spectroscopy at a glass-vapour interface by saturated selective reflection at near normal incidence

S. Le Boiteux, Pierre Simoneau, Daniel Bloch +1 more

Doppler-free spectra of gas phase atoms near a glass-vapour interface are obtained by monitoring the reflection of a probe beam-instead of its transmission-in three-level saturation spectroscopy. Experiments performed on the 3S-3P-4D cascade system of Na have allowed the authors to monitor two-photon-induced saturated dispersion of Na atoms.

Spectral hole-burning in pump–probe studies of nonlinear selective reflection spectroscopy

Yanting Zhao, Jie Ma, Lirong Wang +3 more

Special hole-burning effects on the spectrum of gas atoms near a glass–vapour interface were obtained by observing the reflection of a weak probe beam. Sub-Doppler reflection spectroscopy has been achieved and the unabsorption dip was measured for different pump laser power and detuning. The nonlinear optical properties of the atomic system were investigated by taking into account the collisions between the atoms and the walls of the cell. We also demonstrated the absorption reduction in a V-type energy level configuration with a linewidth of about 6.5 MHz. The experimental results agree with reasonable accuracy with the predictions derived from a theoretical explanation of the nonlinear optical susceptibility.

Spectral Observation of Surface-Induced Van der Waals Attraction on Atomic Vapour

Marcos Oriá, Martine Chevrollier, Daniel Bloch +2 more

Red frequency shift and line asymmetry have been observed in selective reflection spectroscopy at a dielectric/Cs-vapour interface, which have been attributed to surface-induced Van der Waals attraction. This opens the way to studying surface interaction on low-lying, short-lived, excited states.
