Investigation of the time evolutions of some log-periodic oscillators

Abstract

We consider the time evolution of the one dimensional classical and quantum oscillator systems according to its mass and spring constant with fluctuating time. By using the SU(1,1) coherent states, the classical equations of motion of the quantum oscillator have been obtained. Also, the effects of fluctuating mass and spring constant have been illustrated with the figures.

Investigation of the time evolution of Lane–Emden-type Kanai–Caldirola oscillator

Serhat Fevzi Özeren

In this study, we have investigated the time evolution of the first kind Lane–Emden-type Kanai–Caldirola oscillator. The total energy of the one dimensional classical harmonic oscillator with time-dependent mass is obtained. Then by using the SU(1,1) coherent states, the classical equation of motion of the oscillator has been analyzed and the effects of increasing mass have been clearly illustrated in the figures.

On the Dynamics of Generalized Coherent States. II. Classical Equations of Motions

Blagovest A. Nikolov, D. A. Trifonov

Using the Klauder approach the stable evolution of generalized coherent states (GCS) for some groups (SU(2), SU(1,1) and SU(N)) is considered and it is shown that one and the same classical solution z(t) can correctly characterize the quantum evolution of many different (in general nonequivalent) systems. As examples some concrete systems are treated in greater detail: it is obtained that the nonstationary systems of the singular oscillator, of the particle motion in a magnetic field, and of the oscillator with friction all have stable SU(1,1) GCS whose quantum evolution is determined by one and the same classical function z(t). The physical properties of the constructed SU(1,1) GCS are discussed and it is shown particularly that in the case of discrete series D_k^+ they are those states for which the quantum mean values coincide with the statistical ones for an oscillator in a thermostat.

Dynamics of pulsed SU(1,1) coherent states

Christopher C. Gerry, Edward R. Vrscay

In this paper we consider the time evolution of SU(1,1) coherent states driven by a coherence-preserving Hamiltonian containing periodic or quasiperiodic pulsing terms. This is a generalization of a system consisting of a two-level atom subjected to quasiperiodic pulsing that was recently studied by Milonni, Ackerhalt, and Goggin [Phys. Rev. A 35, 1714 (1987)]. The time-evolution operator in our case is given by a product of two finite group transformations of SU(1,1). Assuming an initial SU(1,1) coherent state, we determine the equivalent classical motion generated by a Poincar\'e map that is a M\"obius transformation on the Lobachevski plane, the interior of the unit circle in the complex plane. The quantum-mechanical evolution of the state vector is calculated exactly and in closed form even though the Hilbert space is infinite dimensional. We also study the autocorrelation function which, as in the work of Milonni, Ackerhalt, and Goggin, is found to decay in the case of quasiperiodic pulsing that may possibly be associated with a manifestation of chaos in a quantum-mechanical system.

Evolution of SU(1,1) coherent states in harmonic oscillators with time-dependent masses

Christopher C. Gerry, M F Plumb

The authors study the evolution of SU(1,1) coherent states, which may represent squeezed vacuum states, in harmonic oscillators with time-dependent masses. Such oscillators may model a quantised electromagnetic field in a cavity where the field changes with time under the action of some reservoir. They consider three types of variable mass: a decaying mass, a pulsating mass, and a mass with damping and pulsation. They have found that in the most interesting cases involving pulsation, a high degree of squeezing (enhanced squeezing) may be obtained in the vicinity of the resonance where the pulsation frequency is twice the natural oscillator frequency.

We study the time evolution of a one-dimensional harmonic oscillator with position-dependent mass. The results obtained for three distinct cases are compared with the constant mass case.

Dynamics of SU(1,1) coherent states driven by a damped harmonic oscillator

Christopher C. Gerry, Korman Philip, Edward R. Vrscay

We study the time evolution of SU(1,1) coherent states driven by a damped harmonic oscillator as described by the Kanai-Caldirola Hamiltonian. The coherence of these states is preserved and their time evolution is described by nonlinear ``classical'' equations. The trajectories of all SU(1,1) coherent states in phase space asymptotically approach a common point as t\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\infty}. In all cases, this approach is accompanied by a damping of the associated energy expectation value to zero.
