Abstract

Spatio-temporal characteristics of phase-conjugate processes on the basis of a stimulated scattering or three-wave mixing are considered. On an instance of phase conjugation for a dipolar spin wave pulse at microwave frequency, conjugate mirror effective reflectance application in case of instantaneous nonlinearity is shown.

Reconstruction of the spatiotemporal distribution of the effective reflectance of a phase-conjugate mirror from the oscillograms of incident and reflected pulses

V. I. Kislenko, A. D. Lomakin

The spatiotemporal characteristics of nonlinear optical adaptive processes with the use of the effective reflectance of a phase-conjugate (PC) mirror based on the stimulated scattering of light or three-wave mixing are considered. The efficiency of the use of this physical parameter for studying the characteristics of PC mirrors in the case of inertialless nonlinearity is demonstrated by the example of phase conjugation of magnetostatic waves.

Phase conjugation of nonstationary optical signals

J. A. Tataronis, Bahaa E. A. Saleh

The generation of phase conjugated replicas of optical signals has been the subject of many theoretical and experimental studies. Phase conjugation of harmonic signals is a byproduct of certain nonlinear processes such as degenerate four- wave mixing and stimulated Brillouin scattering. Although conjugation of steady signals is well established, the possibility and the effectiveness of conjugating unsteady signals remain largely unexplored. When the envelope of an optical signal varies, new physical phenomena in the conjugation process arise. As previously shown,1 dispersion in the conjugation process distorts the phase conjugate replica of a pulsed signal. Distortion appears even if the response of the medium to the applied optical signal is instantaneous.

Regenerative amplifiers with one phase-conjugate mirror

Manuel Nieto‐Vesperinas

We study the operating characteristics of a cavity with a gain medium inside and one phase-conjugate mirror as a regenerative amplifier. We show that, for this cavity to work efficiently, the phase-conjugate mirror must have a reflectivity in a certain range determined by the reflectivity of the ordinary mirror. The difference between the phase shift of the incident wave and twice that introduced in the phase-conjugation process should be nonzero.

Linearization of reflection by a hypersonic phase-conjugation mirror

It is shown the dynamic signal energy range within which the reflection coefficient of a phase-conjugation mirror (in a four-wave mixing system with a strong signal wave) remains constant at 40%, can be increased to 5.5 orders of magnitude.

Exact solution of a nonlinear model of four-wave mixing and phase conjugation

Mark Cronin‐Golomb, Jeffrey Owen White, Baruch Fischer +1 more

An exact solution of a nonlinear model of holographic four-wave mixing is derived. An expression for the reflectivity of a phase-conjugate mirror with depleted pumps is presented. We find that such a phase-conjugate mirror may exhibit bistability.

Phase conjugation under four-wave mixing on resonant and thermal nonlinearities at relatively high reflection coefficients

A. A. Akimov, Valery V. Ivakhnik, В. И. Никонов

The dependences of the reflection (transmission) coefficients and the half-width of the spatial frequency band on the pump-wave intensity are obtained for an object (signal) wave in degenerate and quasi-degenerate four-wave mixers on resonant and thermal nonlinearities. The effect of the difference of the pump-wave frequencies on the phase-conjugation quality is studied at relatively high reflection coefficients.
