Plug & Play Quantum Key Distribution Using Modulation Sidebands for Shifting Frequency

Toshimori Honjo, Kyo Inoue

A Plug & Play quantum key distribution (QKD) system operating at a high pulse repetition frequency is presented. To avoid Rayleigh backscattering, modulation sidebands are used as frequency-shifted light. As the pulse repetition frequency increases, the quantum bit-error rate (QBER) in our proposed setup remains constant, while it increases in a conventional setup, which indicates that Plug & Play QKD at a high repetition frequency is possible with our scheme.

Experimental quantum-key distribution with an untrusted source

The photon statistics of a quantum-key-distribution (QKD) source are crucial for security analysis. We propose a practical method, with only a beam splitter and a photodetector, to monitor the photon statistics of a QKD source. By implementing in a plug and play QKD system, we show that the method is highly practical. The final secure key rate is 52 bit/s, compared to 78 bit/s when the source is treated as a trusted source.

Implementation of Plug & Play Quantum Key Distribution Protocol

Byungkyu Ahn, Jinyoung Ha, Youngjin Seo +3 more

This paper represents an experimental implementation of the “Two way Plug & play” quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol, which uses weak coherent pulses at a single photon level to transfer key information from Alice to Bob via the quantum channel. In this experiment, we applied the 25km optical fiber channel and the results show a quantum bit error rate (QBER) of about 3%.
