An analog of double electromagnetically induced transparency with extremely high group indexes

An asymmetric metamaterial exhibiting an analog of double electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) in the middle-infrared region is reported. The metamaterial consists of two-layered arrays of Ushaped rings embedded in a medium, with the lower layer rotated by 90°.Our simulations demonstrate that both maximum group indexes are extremely high at the two EIT-like positions. The group index reaches about thrice the currently reported maximum value at the high-frequency EIT-like position. The transmittance at the two transparency positions also possesses extremely high Q factors, which is conducive to controlling the propagation of electromagnetic waves.

Electromagnetically induced transparency with large group index induced by simultaneously exciting the electric and the magnetic resonance

Haiming Li, Shaobin Liu, Siyuan Liu +1 more

In this paper, we numerically and experimentally demonstrate classical analogy of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) with simultaneously exciting the electric and the magnetic resonance. The cut wire and the split-ring resonator (SRR) are chosen as the bright and the quasi-dark EIT resonators, respectively. Under incident electromagnetic wave illumination, an EIT-like sharp transmission window can be observed. The group index exceeds 140, which can be applied for slow electromagnetic wave velocity. Furthermore, the underlying physics can be interpreted by the concept of hybridization model. The simultaneous excitation of the electric and the magnetic resonance can make up for the shortcomings of the other existing designs. More importantly, it can enrich metamaterial analogy of electromagnetically induced transparency.

Double Spectral Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Based on Double-Bar Dielectric Grating and Its Sensor Application

Guofeng Li, Junbo Yang, Zhaojian Zhang +4 more

The realization of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect based on guided-mode resonance (GMR) has attracted a lot of attention. However, achieving the multispectral EIT effect in this way has not been studied. Here, we numerically realize a double EIT-ike effect with extremely high Q factors based on a GMR system with the double-bar dielectric grating structure, and the Q factors can reach 35,104 and 24,423, respectively. Moreover, the resonance wavelengths of the two EIT peaks can be flexibly controlled by changing the corresponding structural parameters. The figure of merit (FOM) of the dual-mode refractive index sensor based on this system can reach 571.88 and 587.42, respectively. Our work provides a novel method to achieve double EIT-like effects, which can be applied to the dual mode sensor, dual channel slow light and so on.
