Interferometric phase-only optical encryption system that uses a reference wave

Abstract

An improved image decryption system is proposed that is based on phase-encoded images and the principle of interference and uses a reference wave. A novel technique for generating intensity patterns from the decrypted phase information consists simply of interfering a reference wave with the wave passing through the encrypted image and a phase-only decrypting key. Optical experiments have confirmed the proposed technique as a simple and robust architecture for optical encryption.

Image Encryption Using Phase-Based Virtual Image and Interferometer

Dong-Hoan Seo, Soo-Joong Kim

In this paper, we propose an improved optical security system using three phase-encoded images and the principle of interference. This optical system based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer consists of one phase-encoded virtual image to be encrypted and two phase-encoded images, en-crypting image and decrypting image, where every pixel in the three images has a phase value of '0'and' $\pi$ '. The proposed encryption is performed by the multiplication of an encrypting image and a phase-encoded virtual image which dose not contain any information from the decrypted im-age. Therefore, even if the unauthorized users steal and analyze the encrypted image, they cannot reconstruct the required image. This virtual image protects the original image from counterfeiting and unauthorized access. The decryption of the original image is simply performed by interfering between a reference wave and a direct pixel-to-pixel mapping image of the en crypted image with a decrypting image. Computer simulations confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed optical technique for optical security applications.

Simple phase-only optical decryption with misalignment-free input

Tien Viet Vu, Nam Kim, Chang-Seup Nam

An improved optical decryption system based on kinogram encoding is proposed. The decrypted phase image is obtained by optically descrambling the encrypted image with the decrypting phase key. Only a single Fourier lens is needed to generate intensity patterns from the decrypted phase image. The design and simulation results have confirmed the proposed technique as a novel, simple, and robust decryption architecture.

Image-decrypting common path interferometer

Jesper Glueckstad

A new scheme for parallel optical decryption and the display of encrypted image information is presented. The scheme is based on a common path interferometer configuration providing a simple and robust optical setup. Images are encrypted directly during recording by use of a combined phase encoding and phase scrambling method. The encoding and encryption does not require sophisticated, iterative and time consuming optimization algorithms. Pixels are independently encoded and encrypted by use of a simple look-up table technique that can be performed in milliseconds on a standard personal computer. Optical decryption can subsequently be implemented in the common path interferometer by use of single phase or if desired a combined phase/amplitude key. An advantage of the presented method is that the encrypted image may selectively require recording and decryption of phase values or amplitude values or a combination thereof. Another advantage is that decryption is performed in a plane adjacent to the encrypted mask or an equivalent plane whereby generation of speckles in the decrypted image is strongly suppressed. Finally, there is no requirement of positioning a decrypting mask or spatial light modulator in the optical Fourier plane whereby an accurate three dimensional positioning requirement can be avoided.

Phase retrieval encryption in an enhanced optical interference by key phase constraint

Xiaoyan Shi, Ziyang Chen, Daomu Zhao +2 more

In this paper, we demonstrate a security system by using optical interference and phase retrieval algorithm (PRA) techniques. The modified PRA is proposed to encode the target image into random phase distribution. Optical and digital methods can be used for decryption. By using this method, silhouette elimination is realized. In addition, due to this simplified system design, the iterative rate is improved and the optical decryption realization is easier. Validity and performance of the proposed system are demonstrated by means of numerical simulations. The system encryption capacity as to both binary and gray images is numerically investigated. Then, the decryption procedure is demonstrated by optical experiment means and the decryption result is given.

Phase-only optical encryption based on the zeroth-order phase-contrast technique

José Carlos Pizolato, Luiz G. Neto

A phase-only encryption/decryption scheme with the readout based on the zeroth-order phase-contrast technique (ZOPCT), without the use of a phase-changing plate on the Fourier plane of an optical system based on the 4f optical correlator, is proposed. The encryption of a gray-level image is achieved by multiplying the phase distribution obtained directly from the gray-level image by a random phase distribution. The robustness of the encoding is assured by the nonlinearity intrinsic to the proposed phase-contrast method and the random phase distribution used in the encryption process. The experimental system has been implemented with liquid-crystal spatial modulators to generate phase-encrypted masks and a decrypting key. The advantage of this method is the easy scheme to recover the gray-level information from the decrypted phase-only mask applying the ZOPCT. An analysis of this decryption method was performed against brute force attacks.

Optical image encryption using interferometry-basedphase masks

Jong‐Yun Kim, Se-Joon Park, Cheol-Su Kim +2 more

A new and simple image encryption scheme and optical decoding technique are presented based on the principle of interference. An original image is encoded into two phase-valued images. The interference image between the two images produces a binary image, which has a two-level intensity value. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated using computer simulations and optical experiments.
