Abstract

Abstract We report the photon‐correlation Fourier spectroscopy of exciton and exciton complexes in single self‐assembled In0.75Al0.25As/Al0.3Ga0.7As quantum dots. A Michelson interferometer inserted in the photoluminescence path was used to measure the coherent length of the timeaveraged emission of neutral exciton, biexciton, and positive trion. As comparing with their coherence time and their excitation energy dependence, the effects of the exchange interaction and the fluctuation of the surrounding excess charge are discussed. Decoherence of exciton complexes in single InAlAs quantum dots measured by Fourier spectroscopy

We report the single-photon Fourier spectroscopy of exciton and exciton complexes in single self-assembled InAlAs∕AlGaAs quantum dots. A Michelson interferometer was inserted in the photoluminescence path for measuring the coherence length of the time-averaged emission of neutral excitons and their complexes. The effects of exchange interactions and fluctuations in the surrounding excess charges were estimated by comparing the coherence times and the excitation energies of the excitons and their complexes.

Observation of spin relaxation in self‐assembled InAlAs quantum dots by using four‐wave mixing technique

S. Adachi, Takeo Watanuki, Hirotaka Sasakura +1 more

Exciton spin relaxation in self-assembled InAlAs quantum dots were investigated by three-pulse four-wave mixing under resonant conditions. The concept of the spin grating holds well for quantum dots and the measurements combined with optical heterodyne detection at 10 K demonstrates that the exciton spin relaxation last up to a few ns and the time constant is ∼5 times larger than the exciton recombination time in average. Single photon correlation measurements in a study of excitation process of individual CdTe/ZnTe quantum dots

J. Suffczyński, T. Kazimierczuk, M. Goryca +7 more

Abstract We present the results of systematic autocorrelation and cross‐correlation measurements performed on photons originating from various excitonic transitions in a single CdTe/ZnTe quantum dot (QD). Excitation power dependence of photoluminescence intensity was also measured on the same dot under the same experimental conditions. Recorded correlation histograms have provided evidence for memory effects in QD photoluminescence extending over a few excitation periods. Rate equation model assuming a ladder of states and excitation through a single carrier and exciton capture, is fitted to the data. As a consequence, simultaneous quantitative description of the results of both, correlation and power dependence, is obtained. Strong evidence is presented for a QD excitation by capture of single carriers rather than entire excitons. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Coherent control of the biexciton in a single quantum dot

Timur Flissikowski, Alexander Betke, Ilya A. Akimov +1 more

Abstract We report on coherent control of the two‐photon transition between the ground state and the biexciton state on a single quantum dot level. The population of the biexciton is monitored by the cascaded spontaneous emission of the biexciton complex via the exciton states. The signal shows interference pattern at the double laser frequency and its contrast decays non‐exponentially at the time scale of 10 ps. The contrast decrease is attributed to a dynamical inhomogeneous broadening of the energy levels due to long‐term fluctuations in the dot environment. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Coherent control of ground state excitons in the nonlinear regime within an ensemble of self‐assembled InAs quantum dots

Thomas Moldaschl, Thomas G. Muller, Sebastian Golka +3 more

Abstract In this work femtosecond spectral hole burning spectroscopy is used to resonantly excite ground state excitons in an ensemble of self‐assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots with a strong pump pulse. Two fundamental coherent nonlinear effects are observed with the aid of the intrinsic time‐ and frequency resolution of the setup: The low temperature Rabi oscillation of the two‐level system associated with the excitonic ground state transition and the observation of two‐photon absorption in the surrounding GaAs crystal matrix. The emergence of the latter effect also infers the existence of charged excitons in the nominally undoped QD sample, backed up by the observation of additional spectral holes next to the excitonic transitions. Coherent Control of Exciton in a Single Quantum Dot Using High-Resolution Michelson Interferometer

Takumi Okada, Kazuhiro Komori, Keishiro Goshima +6 more

We developed a high-resolution Michelson interferometer with a He–Ne two-frequency laser positioning system, and measured the coherent carrier dynamics of a single InAs self-assembled quantum dot (SAQD) using a micro-spectroscopy system. The phase-locked double pulses were stabilized, with the maximum deviation being below 10 nm during the long measurement time of 1 h. Using this system, coherent control of an exciton in an InAs SAQD with very fine phase stabilization was demonstrated. The dephasing time of the single quantum dots was 9.5 ps which is close to that estimated from the homogeneous linewidth in the photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectrum.
