Abstract

Entangled state analysis is one of the basic techniques in quantum information processing. However, it is impossible to fully distinguish the three-photon Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) states with only linear optical elements. Here, we propose a deterministic scheme to complete three-photon spatial-polarization hyperentangled GHZ-state analysis (HGSA) by using the giant optical Faraday rotation induced by an excess electron spin in a quantum dot inside a one-sided optical microcavity as a result of cavity quantum electrodynamics. It is divided into two steps. The first step is used to distinguish the eight three-photon GHZ states in the spatial-mode degree of freedom (DOF) without destroying the polarization states. The second step is used to distinguish the eight GHZ states in the polarization DOF. This scheme can be generalized to N-photon spatial-polarization HGSA and has useful applications in quantum communication protocols.

Complete analysis and generation of hyperentangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state for photons using quantum-dot spins in optical microcavities

Tie-Jun Wang, Siyu Song, Long, Gui Lu

We propose a scheme for the complete differentiation of 64 three-photon hyperentangled GHZ states in both polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedoms using the quantum-dot cavity system. The three-photon hyperentangled-GHZ-state-analysis scheme can also be used to generate 3-photon hyperentangled GHZ states. This proposed hyperentangled analysis and generation device can serve as crucial components of the high-capacity, long-distance quantum communication. We use quantum swapping as an example to show the application of this device in quantum communication with polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedoms. Using numerical calculations, we show that the present scheme may be feasible in strong-coupling regimes with current technologies.

Efficient hyperentangled Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states analysis with cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Yan Xia, Qing-Qin Chen, Jie Song +1 more

The entangled states analysis is a very important element for quantum information. It is impossible to unambiguously distinguish the three-photon Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) states in polarization, resorting to linear optical elements only. Here, we propose an efficient scheme to complete three-photon hyperentangled GHZ states analysis (HGSA) with the help of the cross-Kerr nonlinearity. The three-photon HGSA scheme can also be generalized to N-photon hyperentangled GHZ states analysis. We discuss the application of the HGSA in the quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) with polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedom. The results show that the HGSA not only increase the channel capacity but also ensure the unconditional security in long-distance quantum communication.

Deterministic state analysis for polarization-spatial-time-bin hyperentanglement with nonlinear optics

Meiyu Wang, Fengli Yan, Ting Gao

Abstract We present two deterministic hyperentangled state analysis protocols for photons entangled in polarization, spatial-mode and time-bin degrees of freedom (DOFs). The first protocol is a hyperentangled Bell state analyzer, and the second is a hyperentangled Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state analyzer for three photons. In the first scheme, we construct a polarization parity-check quantum nondemolition detector (P-QND) and a spatial-mode parity-check quantum nondemolition detector (S-QND) based on cross-Kerr nonlinearities. With these P-QND and S-QND, we design the setup of Bell state analyzer in polarization and spatial-mode DOFs. While time-bin entanglement is discriminated with the help of the polarization entanglement. We generalize the idea to analyze the three-photon hyperentangled GHZ states. In each scheme, a set of mutually orthogonal hyperentangled basis states are completely discriminated via three steps. These two state analysis schemes are expected to provide practical applications for high-capacity and long-distance quantum communication.

Complete hyperentangled-Bell-state analysis for photon systems assisted by quantum-dot spins in optical microcavities

Bell-state analysis (BSA) is essential in quantum communication, but it is impossible to distinguish unambiguously the four Bell states in the polarization degree of freedom (DOF) of two-photon systems with only linear optical elements, except for the case in which the BSA is assisted with hyperentangled states, the simultaneous entanglement in more than one DOF. Here, we propose a scheme to distinguish completely the 16 hyperentangled Bell states in both the polarization and the spatial-mode DOFs of two-photon systems, by using the giant nonlinear optics in quantum dot-cavity systems. This scheme can be applied to increase the channel capacity of long-distance quantum communication based on hyperentanglement, such as entanglement swapping, teleportation, and superdense coding. We use hyperentanglement swapping as an example to show the application of this HBSA.

Complete and fidelity-robust state analysis for polarization-spatial-time-bin hyperentanglement with double-sided quantum-dot-cavity systems

Yuan-Hao Sun, Yu-Qing Guo, Cong Cao

Hyperentanglement represents a key resource in many quantum information processing schemes. Here, we present a complete and fidelity-robust hyperentangled-Bell-state analysis (HBSA) scheme for two-photon systems entangled in polarization, spatial mode, and time-bin degrees of freedom (DOFs). The scheme uses a fidelity-robust quantum nondemolition (QND) detector called BLOCK1, built with a singly charged semiconductor quantum dot (QD) in a double-sided optical microcavity (double-sided QD-cavity system) under the balance condition, and some linear-optical elements. Compared with the previously proposed complete HBSA schemes based on ideal optical giant circular birefringence, our scheme guarantees the robust fidelity and relaxes the requirement on the QD-cavity parameters with the assistance of the balance condition. Different from the schemes using error-detected blocks and exchanging Bell states in different DOFs to get unity fidelity, the BLOCK1 under the balance condition can directly measure the Bell states of polarization and spatial mode so that fewer kinds of linear optical components are needed in our scheme. In addition, our scheme simplifies the discrimination process and reduces the required light–matter interaction by using a self-assisted mechanism. These features indicate that our scheme may be directly generalized to multiphoton hyperentangled Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state analysis and more feasible in practical quantum applications based on the photonic hyperentanglement.

Complete deterministic multi-electron Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state analyzer for quantum communication

Hai‐Rui Wei, Bao‐Cang Ren, Mei Zhang +2 more

We present a scheme for the multi-electron Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state analyzer, resorting to an interface between the polarization of a probe photon and the spin of an electron in a quantum dot embedded in a microcavity. All the multi-spin GHZ states can be completely discriminated by using single-photon detectors and linear optical elements. Our scheme has some features. First, it is a complete GHZ-state analyzer for multi-electron spin systems. Second, the initial entangled states remain after being identified and they can be used for a successive task. Third, the electron qubits are static and the photons play a role of a medium for information transfer, which has a good application in quantum repeater in which the electron qubits are used to store the information and the photon qubits are used to transfer the information between others.
