On gamma-ray spectra of metal nuclei in a metal-carbon cluster

Abstract

The resonance absorption and emission gamma-ray spectra are constructed for nuclear transitions in metals in large metal-carbon clusters. The possibilities of observing gamma lines with the natural linewidth in an isolated molecule and the suppression of the excess line broadening in an ensemble of molecules are estimated. The possibility of the appearance of the hidden population inversion of nuclear states and the quantum amplification of the type of coherent stimulated scattering is also analysed.

Mössbauer medium with a hidden nuclear population inversion and negative absorption of gamma quanta

Лев Абрамович Ривлин

We consider physical foundations of an eventual experiment aimed at observing stimulated gamma-photon emission of long-lived Mössbauer isomers through selective frequency modulation of gamma-resonances establishing hidden population inversion without exceeding the number of excited nuclei over unexcited ones and without additional pumping. The examples of suitable nuclei and numerical estimates of the parameters are presented.

Gamma-ray laser with hidden population inversion of nuclear states

Задерновский Анатолий Андреевич

A comparative analysis of various schemes of a gamma-ray laser is presented. All of the schemes employ a hidden inversion of nuclear states, which appears in cooled nuclear ensembles due to nuclear recoil in the emission and absorption of gamma photons.

Two-quantum stimulated emission of gamma radiation

Задерновский Анатолий Андреевич

Various schemes exploiting two-quantum nuclear transitions for the generation of coherent gamma radiation (stimulated anti-Stokes and stimulated two-quantum de-excitation of isomeric nuclei in an active medium with the hidden population inversion of nuclear states and the ignition of an avalanche-like stimulated gamma-emission by counterpropagating X-rays) are discussed.

Self-amplified spontaneous gamma-ray emission

Задерновский Анатолий Андреевич

We discuss a possibility for obtaining the self-amplified spontaneous emission of gamma radiation in an active medium with hidden population inversion of nuclear states. Hidden inversion appears in cooled nuclear ensembles due to assistance of the nuclear recoil in emission and absorption of gamma quanta. Establishing a hidden inversion allows an amplification of gamma radiation to occur in a particular frequency range without excess of the number of excited nuclei over the number of unexcited nuclei. We formulate a set of requirements to the pumping radiation and to the amplifying nuclear medium crucial to the development of gamma-ray lasing.

Gamma-ray laser operating with the assistance of the recoil of free nuclei

Лев Абрамович Ривлин

The concept of a γ-ray laser which makes use of the kinematic shift and the splitting of the spectral lines of radiative γ-transitions observed in an ensemble of free nuclei owing to recoil is considered. These effects form a prerequisite for the formation of hidden population inversion with no excess of the number of excited emitters over the number of unexcited ones, for implementation of a broadband unperturbing x-ray pump in an unconventional 'two-level' scheme, for the manifestation of anisotropic quantum amplification without any reflecting structures, etc. These attractive properties offer strong possibilities of staging an initial demonstration nuclear γ-ray laser experiment.

On radiative nuclear gamma transitions in a Bose—Einstein condensate

Лев Абрамович Ривлин

The unique properties of radiative nuclear gamma transitions in atoms of a Bose—Einstein condensate, in particular, the efficient suppression of the inhomogeneous broadening of gamma lines related to the translation degrees of freedom of the atoms are theoretically estimated. The effective temperature characterising this broadening proves to be many orders of magnitude lower than the real temperature of the atomic ensemble. The phenomena considered in the paper open up new approaches to the problems of quantum nucleonics, for example, the observation of stimulated gamma radiation of long-lived isomeric nuclei.
