Abstract

We study the possibilities of all-optical image and data processing using cavity type II second-harmonic generation. We show AND and XOR operations when using two images. The use of cavities with spherical mirrors is discussed.

Optical image and data processing with cavity type -II second harmonic generation

This study discusses optical image and data processing with type-II intracavity second harmonic generation. This work explores both the case of injecting a homogeneous field and an image and the case of injecting two images simultaneously.

Image processing with cavity type-II Second Harmonic Generation

Pierre Scotto, Pere Colet, Maxi San Miguel

Nonlinear optical effects may provide a way to perform all-optical parallel processing of images. Here, we investigate the possibilities offered by Type II intracavity second harmonic generation. We show that injecting an image in one polarization and a homogeneous field in the other, we obtain, according to the value of the latter, either the frequency and polarization transfer of the image or the possibility to enhance its contrast.

All-optical image processing with cavity type II second-harmonic generation

Pierre Scotto, Pere Colet, Maxi San Miguel

The possibilities offered by type II intracavity second-harmonic generation for all-optical parallel processing of images are investigated. By injecting an image in a linearly polarized pump beam and a homogeneous field with orthogonal polarization, we obtain, according to the value of the latter, either frequency and polarization transfer or contrast enhancement and contour recognition. Noise-filtering effects are also predicted.

Analytical approach to all-optical modulation by cascading

Andrey E. Kobyakov, Ulf Peschel, R. Muschall +3 more

We study analytically all-optical modulation by cascading in type II second-harmonic generation and show that this configuration is promising for all-optical signal processing, provided that it is operated near phase matching. Conditions for an effective transistorlike action are derived.

Nonlinear Raman and second harmonic imaging with quantum light (Conference Presentation)

Vladislav V. Yakovlev

Advanced spectroscopic tools are now widely utilized in microscopic optical imaging. Most of those techniques have already reached the level of “quantum limited” detection using classical light. In this report I will explored quantum-optical approaches to microscopic optical imaging. Using two selective examples of Raman and second-harmonic imaging, I will illustrate potential advantages of such approaches and discuss potential challenges and instrumentation developments.
