Abstract

A hybrid WDM and SAC/Optical CDMA System is proposed to enhance the data network security and to exploit the capacity of an optical system. Code pulses of SAC/Optical CDMA are overlaid onto a multichannel WDM system. Modified Quadratic Congruence (MQC) code is as the signature address code for SAC/Optical CDMA. In general, OCDMA improves service availability for data of a network. With the use of WDM channels in a hybrid scheme, an eavesdropper faces another challenge for intercepting and decoding the coded signal. The interference that is the main factor limits the performance of the proposed system. So that, the notch filters and APD photo detectors instead of PIN photo detectors are used in order to improve the SAC/OCDMA performance. A simulation is presented as a demonstration of the concept.

Hybrid SAC/Optical CDMA-WDM overlay system for enhancing network security

An enhancement of data networks security using a hybrid WDM and SAC/Optical CDMA System is proposed. Secure transmission for dedicated users is achieved by overlaying a covert channel onto a multichannel WDM network. The covert channel is spectrally encoded using spectral amplitude coding (SAC) with unipolar Modified Double Weight (MDW) as the signature address code. OCDMA improves service availability in the presence of physical infrastructure attacks. With the use of WDM channels, the difficulty for an eavesdropper to intercept and decode the secure signal is increased. A simulation is presented as a demonstration of the concept.

(OCDMA) is an alternative method, which performs encoding and decoding through an optical signature code, in order to allow the selection of the desired signal so that different users can share the same bandwidth. In such a system, the data signal overlap both in time and wavelength. Tradeoffs between security and performance in optical CDMA are presented. Confidentiality against eavesdropper interception strategies for optical CDMA is considered. Coherent detection and combining signals shows better confidentiality than the incoherent one. Spectral amplitude optical CDMA based on Modified Double Weight (MDW) systems, with different code dimension, is investigated. Increasing the network system capacity or maximizing authorized specified SNRs will lead to eavesdropper to detect high SNRs.

Development of a secured optical code-division multiple access system by implementing hybrid 2D-modified Walsh code

Madhumita Das Sarkar, Shila Ghosh

We present the development of a multi-user cross-layer security network implemented on the optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) with newly designed hybrid 2D-modified Walsh code (MWC) along with an algorithmic approach in cryptography domain. Minimum BER value is evaluated on the order of 10 − 50 using our designed MWC, which is comparatively lower than other existing codes. The security performance of the network was analyzed using the probability detection parameter, which was found to be superior apart from few other available existing codes. The enhancement of the quality and grade of security in this network eavesdropper can intercept the designed optical code of OCDMA in the physical layer. It compels one to break the security in the data-layer to access the original code. We also calculated the probability of successful data interception as a function of time complexity. Furthermore, we presented the simulation of the hybrid system using the OptiSystem simulator.

An Inclusive Comparison in LAN Environment between Conventional and Hybrid Methods for Spectral Amplitude Coding Optical CDMA Systems

Hassan Yousif, Kottakkaran Sooppy Nisar, Zakir Hossain A.K.M. +1 more

In this paper, performance analysis of conventional spectral amplitude coding (CSAC) with hybrid (HSAC) for OCDMA system is investigated in local area network (LAN) environment. The CSAC is built based on arithmetic sequence with simple algebraic ways. The HSAC technique is used in which spectral amplitude coding (SAC) combined with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) to effectively reduce multiple access interference (MAI) and mitigate the influence of phase induced intensity noise (PIIN) arising in photodetecting process. The main idea is to construct the code sequences in SAC domain then repeat it diagonally in the wavelength domain as groups which maintains the same cardinality of a given code weight. Results show that HSAC outperforms CSAC when the number of active users is high due to its better correlation properties. It has been shown that the HSAC can suppress intensity noise effectively and improve the bandwidth utilization significantly up to 4.2 nm.

This paper presents security performance for incoherent unipolar and bipolar Optical CDMA Network Systems. The eavesdropper performance is investigated, by simulation, based on Modified Double Weight (MDW) Spectral Amplitude Optical CDMA. Our results show that using unipolar OCDMA code schemes based on MDW code system enhances the security with a low cost implementation in comparison to the bipolar ones.
