Abstract

The paper describes experimental investigations of two-color optical super-radiance (SR) in LaF3:Pr3+ crystal. Optical excitation was made on the transition 3P0- 3H4(0) at liquid helium temperature. When the power of the pumping 10ns-pulse was higher than a certain threshold, the resonant medium emitted an optical SR pulse on 3P0-3H4(0) transition with a duration of 8-10 ns in the direction of the pumping pulse delayed in time by 12-15 ns with respect to the pumping pulse. When the peak power of the pumping pulse increases up to 40 kW, an SR pulse was also observed for the 3P0-3H6(1) transition. The delay time of this pulse was about 30 ns. Thus, the two-color SR in the employed crystal was observed.

Peculiarities of two-color optical superradiance in the LaF 3 :Pr 3+ crystal

Alexei A. Kalachev, Самарцев Виталий Владимирович

We report the results of detailed investigation of optical superradiance (SR) in LaF3:Pr3+ crystal resonantly excited on the 3P0-3H4(0) transition by laser pulse. When the power of the pumping pulse was higher than a certain threshold, the resonant medium emitted by optical SR pulse on 3P0-3H4(0) transition in the direction of the pumping pulse (as well as in the opposite direction) delayed in time with respect to the pumping pulse. Further increasing of the peak power of the pumping pulse led to the observation of SR on the 3P0-3H6(1) transition also. Thus, the two-color SR in the employed crystal was observed.

Optical superradiance in a Pr3+:LaF3crystal

В. А. Зуйков, А. А. Калачев, В. В. Самарцев +1 more

Optical superradiance was experimentally obtained for the first time on the 3 P 0 — 3 H 4 (0) transition in a Van Vleck paramagnet — a Pr 3+ :LaF 3 crystal. Superradiance at a wavelength of 477.7 nm was emitted by a sample 8 mm long, with resonant absorption coefficient α=4.7 cm -1 , excited by 10-ns laser pulses at a temperature of 2.2 K.

Polarization behaviour of optical superradiance in LaF3: Pr3+ crystal

Alexander A. Kalinkin, Alexei A. Kalachev, Самарцев Виталий Владимирович

The polarization properties of optical two-color superradiance in LaF3:Pr3+ crystal are investigated theoretically. The triggering regime of excitation is considered. Optimal conditions for experimental observation of SR signals are determined.

Experimental observation of electromagnetically induced transparency in Pr3+:LaF3

Ахмеджанов Ринат Абдулхаевич, Lev Gushin, Elena Kuznetsova +3 more

We report an experimental observation of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in Pr3+:LaF3 at liquid helium temperature at the 3H4(0)–1D2 (16 872 cm−1) transition. Transparency resonance at ground state hyperfine sublevels (in a Λ scheme) and a dispersion-shaped resonance due to excited state hyperfine coherences (in a V scheme) are detected. Theoretical analysis taking into account the six-level Pr3+ level structure gives qualitative agreement with the experiment.

Spectroscopy of single Pr3+ ion in LaF3 crystal at 1.5 K

一平 中村, Ippei Nakamura, 吉弘, 達矢 +7 more

Optical read-out and manipulation of the nuclear spin state of single rare-earth ions doped in a crystal enable the large-scale storage and the transport of quantum information. Here, we report the photo-luminescence excitation spectroscopy results of single Pr3+ ions in a bulk crystal of LaF3 at 1.5 K. In a bulk sample, the signal from a single ion at the focus is often hidden under the background signal originating from numerous out-of-focus ions in the entire sample. To combine with a homemade cryogenic confocal microscope, we developed a reflecting objective that works in superfluid helium with a numerical aperture of 0.99, which increases the signal by increasing the solid angle of collection to 1.16π and reduces the background by decreasing the focal volume. The photo-luminescence excitation spectrum of single Pr3+ was measured at a wing of the spectral line of the 3H4 right arrow 3P0 transition at 627.33 THz (477.89 nm). The spectrum of individual Pr3+ ions appears on top of the background of 60 cps as isolated peaks with intensities of 20–30 cps and full-width at half-maximum widths of approximately 3 MHz at an excitation intensity of 80 W cm−2.

Visible laser emission of Pr3+ in various hosts

Michał Malinowski, M.‐F. Joubert, Rachid Mahiou +1 more

We report on the first observation of low temperature pulsed blue and orange laser emissions in Pr3+:YAG. Furthermore, we compare these results with similar observations in YLiF4 and YAlO3 doped crystals. Pulsed laser oscillations were obtained in crystals with uncoated surfaces by direct excitation of one of the relevant Stark components of the 3P0, 3P1 or 3P2 states. A carefull spectroscopic analysis of all these systems allows to clearly identify the laser transitions as arising from the 3P0 metastable state, the lifetime of which has been measured using a nanosecond pumped dye laser.
