Abstract

Abstract In this work we study the potential for coherent manipulation of an asymmetric double quantum dot structure by the use of adiabatic methods. These methods are the Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage (STIRAP) and its modification the fractional STIRAP. We show that such a method can be used for complete electron transfer between the two lower states of the quantum dots. In addition, with fractional STIRAP a coherent superposition of the two lower states of the quantum dots can be created. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Coherent electron transfer in a coupled quantum dot nanostructure using stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

Antonios Fountoulakis, Emmanuel Paspalakis

We study the potential for coherent transfer of a single electron between the ground states of two anharmonic coupled quantum dots using an adiabatic passage method. We consider the interaction of a quantum dot structure characterized by an asymmetric confining potential by two external electromagnetic fields. We use the method of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) for control of the dynamics of the electron, and ultimately for succeeding the transfer of the electron from the initially occupied quantum dot to the other quantum dot. Results for several values of the parameters of the applied electromagnetic fields are presented, and we show that STIRAP can lead to efficient coherent single electron transfer for a wide range of these parameters.

Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage for the photon‐assisted tunneling in a double quantum dot

Shinji Abe, Hirotaka Sasakura, S. Adachi +1 more

We have investigated the pulse parameters of the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) for efficient electron transfer in the coupled quantum dot system, and we found that STIRAP is sensitive to the difference between the dipole moments of the involved transitions. We have designed the QD structures where this drawback can be suppressed, to show the practicality of the photon-assisted tunneling between spatiallyseparated QDs. (© 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Creation and Transfer of Coherence via Technique of Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage in Triple Quantum Dots

Si-Cong Tian, Ren-Gang Wan, Chun-Liang Wang +3 more

We propose a scheme for creation and transfer of coherence among ground state and indirect exciton states of triple quantum dots via the technique of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. Compared with the traditional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage, the Stokes laser pulse is replaced by the tunneling pulse, which can be controlled by the externally applied voltages. By varying the amplitudes and sequences of the pump and tunneling pulses, a complete coherence transfer or an equal coherence distribution among multiple states can be obtained. The investigations can provide further insight for the experimental development of controllable coherence transfer in semiconductor structure and may have potential applications in quantum information processing.

Creation of coherent atomic superpositions by fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

Nikolay V. Vitanov, Kalle‐Antti Suominen, Bruce W. Shore

We discuss the properties of a simple and robust scheme for preparing atoms and molecules in an arbitrary preselected coherent superposition of quantum states - fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (fractional STIRAP) - first proposed by Marte et al (1991 Phys. Rev. A 44 R4118). As in STIRAP, the Stokes pulse arrives before the pump pulse, but unlike STIRAP, here the two pulses terminate simultaneously, while maintaining a constant ratio of amplitudes. We extend earlier research and suggest a realization of this scheme with two smoothly varying delayed laser pulses (which can be derived from a single laser), the parameters of the created superposition being controlled by the polarization of the delayed pulse. Furthermore, we provide simple analytic estimates of the robustness of this process against variations in the laser intensity, laser frequency and pulse delay. Finally, we discuss an extension to multistate systems which provides a possibility for creating coherent superpositions of more than two states.

Robust switching of superposition-states via a coherent double stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

Luyao Yan, Dandan Ma, Dongmin Yu +1 more

Coherent manipulation of quantum states is of crucial importance in accurate control of a quantum system. A fundamental goal is coherently transferring the population of a desired state with near-unit fidelity. For this purpose, we theoretically demonstrate a novel coherent double-stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) in a three-level Λ-type system for realizing the switch of unequal initial preparations on two ground states. This operation uses a single optical pulse sequence accomplishing both bright-STIRAP and dark-STIRAP processes, in which the intermediate-level detuning and the pulse delay must be given an optimal adjustment. Besides, owing to the imperfection of double-STIRAP transition, the sensitivity of the switch fidelity with respect to the spontaneous loss from the intermediate state, to the pulse amplitude and to the population difference, is also discussed. This work suggests a simple and experimentally feasible all-optical approach to switch a superposition quantum state, serving as one-step closer to the goal of coherent manipulation of quantum systems.

Chirped fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

Jabir Chathanathil, Aneesh Ramaswamy, Vladimir S. Malinovsky +2 more

In this work we develop a theory of fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (FSTIRAP) using frequency-chirped pulses (CFSTIRAP). We analyze the CFSTIRAP as a method to create a coherent superposition state maximizing coherence between the initial and the target state in the presence of the two-photon detuning. We demonstrate that the pulse chirping permits relaxation of the condition of the two-photon resonance required for adiabatic passage in STIRAP and FSTIRAP. The choice of the chirp rate $|\ensuremath{\alpha}|=|\ensuremath{\delta}|/({t}_{p}\ensuremath{-}{t}_{s})$ enables adiabatic passage to a predetermined state between two nearly degenerate final states within a broad range of values of the two-photon detuning and the chirp rate. The proposed schemes will expand the scope of quantum control methods and contribute to the further improvement of quantum imaging, sensing, and metrology.
