Mixedness of the N -qubit states with exchange symmetry

Abstract

The mixedness of the N -qubit quantum states with exchange symmetry has been studied, and the results show that the linear entropy of the single qubit reduced density matrix (RDM), which can describe the mixedness, is completely determined by the expectation values ( S z ) and ( S ± ) for both the pure and the mixed states. The mixedness of the pure states can be used to describe the bipartite entanglement, as an example we have calculated the mixedness of the Dicke state and the spin squeezed Kitagawa–Ueda state. For the mixed states, we determine the mixedness properties of both the ground states and the thermal states in mean-field clusters of spin-1/2 particles interacting via the anisotropy Heisenberg XXZ interaction, and found for the ferromagnetic case ( J < 0), the mixedness will approximate to the pairwise entanglement when the anisotropic parameter Δ > Δ c .

Entanglement in a molecular three-qubit system

Amit Kumar Pal, Indrani Bose

We study the entanglement properties of a molecular three-qubit system described by the Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian with anisotropic exchange interactions and including an external magnetic field. The system exhibits first-order quantum phase transitions by tuning two parameters, x and y, of the Hamiltonian to specific values. The three-qubit chain is open-ended so that there are two types of pairwise entanglement: nearest-neighbour (nn) and next-nearest-neighbour (nnn). We calculate the ground and thermal state concurrences, quantifying pairwise entanglement, as a function of the parameters x, y and the temperature T. The entanglement threshold and gap temperatures are also determined as a function of the anisotropy parameter x. The results obtained are of relevance in understanding the entanglement features of the recently engineered molecular Cr(7)Ni-Cu(2+)-Cr(7)Ni complex which serves as a three-qubit system at sufficiently low temperatures.

COMPLEMENTARITY RELATIONS FOR MULTI-QUBIT SYSTEMS

Tracey E. Tessier

We derive two complementarity relations that constrain the individual and bipartite properties that may simultaneously exist in a multi-qubit system. The first expression, valid for an arbitrary pure state of n qubits, demonstrates that the degree to which single particle properties are possessed by an individual member of the system is limited by the bipartite entanglement that exists between that qubit and the remainder of the system. This result implies that the phenomenon of entanglement sharing is one specific consequence of complementarity. The second expression, which holds for an arbitrary state of two qubits, pure or mixed, quantifies a tradeoff between the amounts of entanglement, separable uncertainty, and single particle properties that are encoded in the quantum state. The separable uncertainty is a natural measure of our ignorance about the properties possessed by individual subsystems, and may be used to completely characterize the relationship between entanglement and mixedness in two-qubit systems. The two-qubit complementarity relation yields a useful geometric picture in which the root mean square values of local subsystem properties act like coordinates in the space of density matrices, and suggests possible insights into the problem of interpreting quantum mechanics.

REDUCED DENSITY MATRIX AND ENTANGLEMENT ENTROPY OF PERMUTATIONALLY INVARIANT QUANTUM MANY-BODY SYSTEMS

VLADISLAV POPKOV, Mario Salerno

In this paper we discuss the properties of the reduced density matrix of quantum many body systems with permutational symmetry and present basic quantification of the entanglement in terms of the von Neumann (VNE), Renyi and Tsallis entropies. In particular, we show, on the specific example of the spin 1/2 Heisenberg model, how the RDM acquires a block diagonal form with respect to the quantum number k fixing the polarization in the subsystem conservation of Sz and with respect to the irreducible representations of the Sn group. Analytical expression for the RDM elements and for the RDM spectrum are derived for states of arbitrary permutational symmetry and for arbitrary polarizations. The temperature dependence and scaling of the VNE across a finite temperature phase transition is discussed and the RDM moments and the Rényi and Tsallis entropies calculated both for symmetric ground states of the Heisenberg chain and for maximally mixed states.

Correlation and Entanglement of Multipartite States

Y. B. Band, I. Osherov

We derive a classification and a measure of classical- and quantum-correlation of multipartite qubit, qutrit, and in general, $n$-level systems, in terms of SU$(n)$ representations of density matrices. We compare the measure for the case of bipartite correlation with concurrence and the entropy of entanglement. The characterization of correlation is in terms of the number of nonzero singular values of the correlation matrix, but that of mixed state entanglement requires additional invariant parameters in the density matrix. For the bipartite qubit case, the condition for mixed state entanglement is written explicitly in terms of the invariant paramters in the density matrix. For identical particle systems we analyze the effects of exchange symmetry on classical and quantum correlation.

Non-Markovian dynamics and von Neumann entropy evolution of a qubit in a spin environment

J. Rodríguez Garzón, R.M. Gutiérrez

The dynamics of a central spin-1/2 in presence of a local magnetic field and a bath of N spin-1/2 particles is studied in the thermodynamic limit. The interaction between the spins is Heisenberg XY type and the bath is considered to be a perfect thermal reservoir. In this case, the evolution of the populations of the reduced density matrix are obtained for different temperatures. A Born approximation is made but not a Markov approximation resulting a non-Markovian dynamics. The measure of the way that the system mixes is obtained by means of the von Neumann entropy. For low temperatures, results show that there are oscillations of populations and of the von Neumann entropy, indicating that the central spin becomes a pure state with characteristic time periods in which it is possible to extract or recuperate information. In the regime of high temperatures, the evolution shows a final maximum mixed state with entropy S=ln 2 as it is expected for a two level system.

Research Paper: Investigation of the Relationship of the Degree of Mixedness and Entanglement of the Bipartite Spin Coherent States

Mehrzad Ashrafpour, Zahra Saghi

In this work, superposition of spin coherent states composed of two qubits is formed and by calculating the geometric measure of mixing of the system introduced in this work, the degree of mixedness of the studied state is investigated. In the following, the changes in the entanglement of the introduced state are studied by using the negativity measure. Finally, by drawing the appropriate plots, according to the influential parameters in this system, we examine the maximum and the minimum of the changes in the mixedness and entanglement and also their relationship to the mixed system consisting of two-qubit spin coherent states. It was observed that for maximizing α, when the changes of parameters indicate the purity of the state, the entanglement of the system reaches its maximum value for two-qubit systems. Also, for all values of coherence parameter, the entanglement decreases when mixedness of the system increases.
