Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate a three-channel all-optical routing based on light storage in a Pr(3+):Y(2)SiO(5) crystal. By switching off the control field under the condition of electromagnetically induced transparency, the optical information of the probe light pulse can be stored in the crystal. When three retrieve control fields are switched on in the release process, the stored optical information from one light channel can be transferred (or distributed) into three different light channels. Also we show that this all-optical routing can be time-delayed. Such a multichannel all-optical routing in solids may have practical applications in quantum information and all-optical network.

Optical information transfer between two light channels in a Pr^3+:Y_2SiO_5crystal

We experimentally demonstrate light storage and release in a four-level double-lambda atomic system of a Pr (3+):Y(2)SiO(5) crystal. Based on the technique of light storage, we realize optical information transfer between two light channels. The coherent optical information of a probe pulse stored in the crystal can be selectively released into two different light channels by varying the frequency and propagation direction of the switch-on control field.

Angular multiplexing storage of light pulses and addressable optical buffer memory in Pr3+:Y2SiO5 based on electromagnetically induced transparency

Yanfei Tu, Guoquan Zhang, Zhaohui Zhai +1 more

We observed angular multiplexing storage of multiple light pulses in a ${\text{Pr}}^{3+}:{\text{Y}}_{2}{\text{SiO}}_{5}$ crystal based on electromagnetically induced transparency. Addressable routing of stored light pulses with an angular resolution of $\ensuremath{\sim}1\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$ and without cross-talk between two neighboring channels, which serves as an addressable optical buffer memory, was demonstrated experimentally in a 3-mm ${\text{Pr}}^{3+}:{\text{Y}}_{2}{\text{SiO}}_{5}$ crystal. Angular multiplexing storage of light pulses opens a way to manipulate light pulses selectively and in parallel, and therefore, is of important potential applications in quantum information processing and addressable all-optical delay lines and buffers.

Generation and storage of double slow light pulses in a solid

Yun-Fei Fan, Hai-Hua Wang, Rong Wang +5 more

We experimentally study the generation and storage of double slow light pulses in a Pr 3+ :Y 2 SiO 5 crystal. Under electromagnetically induced transparency, a single signal pulse is stored in the spin coherence of the crystal. By simultaneously switching on two control fields to recall the stored information, the spin coherence is converted into two slow light pulses with distinct frequencies. Furthermore, the storage and controlled retrieval of double slow light pulses are obtained by manipulating the control fields. This study of double slow light pulses may have practical applications in information processing and all-optical networks.

Slowing and storage of double light pulses in a Pr^3+:Y_2SiO_5 crystal

Hai-Hua Wang, Yun-Fei Fan, Rong Wang +6 more

We experimentally demonstrate the slowing and storage of double light pulses in a Pr(3+):Y(2)SiO(5) crystal using a multilevel-tripod scheme. Owing to double dark-state polaritons of the tripod-type system, two signal pulses can be simultaneously slowed. Also, we realize the simultaneous storage (and retrieval) of double light pulses by switching off (and back on) the control field. Slowing and storage of double light pulses in solids may have practical applications in quantum information and quantum networks.

Frequency Conversion Based on Light Storage in Pr:YSO Crystal

Dun-Mao Du

The authors experimentally demonstrated the optical information transfer between two frequencies channels based on electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) in a four level double lambda system in Pr∶YSO crystal.Under the conditions of EIT,a weak probe pulse is slowed during the propagation in the crystal.A group velocity of 86 m/s is observed experimentally.By adiabatically switching off the control field, most of the probe pulse is stored in the sample.By switching on two control fields(with distinct frequencies and direction) in the release process, the stored optical information is distributed into two spatially-separated channels from the original slow light pulse with a single channel.By adjusting the two control fields in the release process, the information of slowed light pulse can be converted between the frequencies channels.
