Abstract

Quantum-correlated twin beams were successfully generated from an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by a frequency-doubled diode laser. The 50-mW diode laser output at 1080 nm was first converted to 22.5-mW green light, and then was used to pump an OPO to yield signal and idler beams with a total power of 5 mW. Noise reduction of 4.3 dB below the shot-noise level was observed in the intensity-difference spectrum. The setup opens a simple way to a compact and low-cost source of diverse nonclassical states of light.

Generation of twin beams from an optical parametric oscillator pumped by a frequency-doubled diode laser

Hayasaka, K, Zhang, Y, Kasai, K

Quantum-correlated twin beams were generated from a triply resonant optical parametric oscillator with an a-cut KTP crystal pumped by a frequency-doubled diode laser. A total output of 5.1 mW was obtained in the classical-to-nonclassical-light conversion system driven by a 50-mW diode laser at 1080 nm. Quantum noise reduction of 4.3 dB (63%) in the intensity difference between the twin beams was successfully observed at the detection frequency of 3 MHz.

Application of an all-solid-state, frequency-doubled Nd:YAP laser to the generation of twin beams at 1080 nm

Ruixiang Guo, Julien Laurat, Jiangrui Gao +2 more

A laser-diode-pumped intracavity frequency-doubled Nd:YAP/KTP laser is presented. Over 110 mw of TEM00 single-frequency output power at 540-nm wavelength was obtained. The output green laser was employed to pump a semimonolithic nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator to produce intensity quantum correlated twin beams at 1080 nm, and the maximum quantum noise squeezing of 74% (5.9dB) on the intensity difference fluctuation between the twin beams is observed. The threshold was reduced and the stability was increased significantly when compared with similar lamp-pumped systems.

Generation of two-mode bright squeezed light using a noise-suppressed amplified diode laser

Yun Zhang, Kazuhiro Hayasaka, Katsuyuki Kasai

We present the generation of nonclassical state using an amplified diode laser as a light source. The intensity noise of an amplified diode laser was significantly suppressed and reached the shot noise limit at 15 MHz using both a filter cavity and resonant optical feedback. Frequency doubling efficiency of 66% and up to 120 mW output power of green has been achieved in cw second-harmonic generation from 1080 nm to 540 nm. Bright two-mode amplitude-squeezed state was generated from a type-II nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier pumped by generated green light. The measured noise reduction is 2.1+/-0.2 dB below the shot-noise level.

Generation of twin beams with quantum noise reduction of 8.6 dB by a diode-laser-based optical parametric oscillator

K. Hayasaka, Yun Zhang, K. Kasai

The paper describes an alternative experimental setup for the generation of twin beams. It uses a single-stripe diode laser at 1080 nm as the fundamental light source. This setup has a merit of being completely free from walk-off, and less demanding in cost.

Generation and application of twin beams from an optical parametric oscillator including an ?-cut KTP crystal

Jiangrui Gao, Fuyun Cui, Chenyang Xue +2 more

Measurement slight amounts of absorption of light with accuracy beyond the standard quantum limit has been experimentally demonstrated. The quantum-correlated twin beams used in the measurement were generated from a nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator including an alpha-cut KTiOPO(4) crystal pumped by an intracavity frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser. The noise in the intensity difference between the twin beams was reduced by 88% below the standard quantum limit (SQL). The signal-to-noise ratio was improved by 7 dB with respect to the SQL of the total light employed in the experiment and by 4 dB with respect to that of the signal light.
