Abstract

We investigated the intensity noise spectra of the single beam of a pump-enhanced continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillator (OPO), which was used to generate quantum correlated twin beams, as a function of the pump power. With a triply (pump-, signal-, and idler-) resonant cavity, the oscillation threshold of our OPO was about 8.5+/-1.3 mW and the measured slope conversion efficiency was 0.72+/-0.02. A twin beams with power of 240 mW were generated at pump power of 350 mW. The relaxation oscillation frequencies, which depend on the pump power, were observed when the pump power of OPO was from 12.5 mW to 28 mW. The experimental results confirm the predicted increase in OPO relaxation frequency with pump power. Squeezing of the single beam intensity was for the first time inferred experimentally by exploiting nature of quantum noise dependent on loss.

With a triply (pump-, signal-, and idler-) resonant cavity, the oscillation threshold of our OPO was 8.5±1.3 mW and the measured slope conversion efficiency was 0.72±0.02. Experimental investigation of intensity difference squeezing using Nd:YAP laser as pump source

Qing Pan, Yun Zhang, Tiancai Zhang +2 more

A strong quantum correlation between twin-beams at wavelength was observed. The intensity difference noise of twin-beams, which is generated by a semimonolithic OPO cavity pumped by a frequency-doubled and stabilized Nd:YAP laser, is about 80% (7 dB) below the short noise limit at the measurement frequency of 1.5 MHz. The threshold of the optical parametric oscillator is about 20 mW. The parametric dependence of the quantum correlation is experimentally investigated. The experimental results agree with the theory well.

Twin-beams Statistics for Strong Pumping

A. Porzio, Fabio Sciarrino, A. Chiummo +1 more

Abstract Twin-beams generated by non degenerate optical parametric oscillators exhibit squeezing in the inten sity difference. Here we report intensity noise correlation and single beam spectra for pump power up to 14 times the threshold value. The degree of correlation of the two beams is practically independent of pump level. The single beam spectra confirm presence of relaxation oscillation.

Nonclassical light generation from an optical parametric oscillator pumped by a frequency-doubled diode laser

Kazuhiro Hayasaka, Yun Zhang, Katsuyuki Kasai

Quantum-correlated twin beams were successfully generated from an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by a frequency-doubled diode laser. The 50-mW diode laser output at 1080 nm was first converted to 22.5-mW green light, and then was used to pump an OPO to yield signal and idler beams with a total power of 5 mW. Noise reduction of 4.3 dB below the shot-noise level was observed in the intensity-difference spectrum. The setup opens a simple way to a compact and low-cost source of diverse nonclassical states of light.

Recent Progress in Quantum Optics. Generation of Bright Squeezed Light and Quantum-Correlated Twin Photon Beams Using a Semimonolithic Optical Parametric Oscillator.

Katsuyuki Kasai, Noriaki Onodera, Jiangrui Gao +1 more

We have generated bright squeezed light and quantum-correlated twin photon beams by using a cw semimonolithic KTP Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO), which exhibits a low oscillation threshold and is capable of oscillating even in the free-running (no external-feedback) condition. The pump beam reflected by the OPO, after a cascading nonlinearity process in the crystal, appears as bright squeezed light. The squeezing observed on the reflected pump beam from the semimonolithic OPO was 30% (inferred squeezing: 48%). The signal and idler beams generated by the optical parametric oscillator are highly quantum-correlated twin photon beams. Since the squeezing property of the intensity difference between the twin photonbeams is robust in the condition where the two fields are balanced, the squeezing can be observed even in the freerunning condition of the OPO. This intensity-difference squeezing observed between the twin photon beams from the free-running semimonolithic OPO was 70% (inferred squeezing: 87%).
