Recirculating fibre ring interferometer with compensation for losses in the cavity

É. I. Alekseev, E. N. Bazarov, V. P. Gubin +3 more

A new recirculating fibre ring interferometer with an intracavity fibre amplifier and a broadband light source is developed. A substantial increase in the threshold sensitivity of the interferometer to rotation and an increase in the scale factor are experimentally demonstrated in the near-threshold regime.

Photonic Radio Frequency Memory Using Frequency Shifting Recirculating Delay Line Structure

Tuan A. Nguyen, Erwin H. W. Chan, Robert A. Minasian

A new structure for storing a radio frequency (RF) signal utilising a fibre-optic delay line is presented. It is based on a frequency shifting recirculating delay line loop for the RF pulse storage, which prevents lasing and enables multiple recirculations and long storage time to be realised. The new photonic RF memory (PRFM) can realise a long reconfigurable storage time, wide instantaneous bandwidth and high dynamic range. Experimental demonstration of the frequency shifting loop based PRFM has been carried out for the first time, showing a long and reconfigurable storage time of more than 300 μs with high signal fidelity.

Demonstration of over 100 million round trips in recirculating fibre loop with all-optical regeneration

Vladimir I. Belotitskii, Eugenii A. Kuzin, M. P. Petrov +1 more

More than 100 million round trips of 100ps optical pulses with a pulse repetition frequency of 100 MHz through a fibre recirculating loop are demonstrated. The signal is regenerated by a NOR gate operating via the SRS effect. The recirculating time is more than 10min. This indicates that such a loop can be used to develop an all-optical memory with a long storage time.
