Electromagnetically induced transparency on GaAs quantum well to observe hole spin dephasing

Hoonsoo Kang, Jong Su Kim, Sung In Hwang +3 more

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) was observed with transient optical response of exciton correlation in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well structure. Decoherence of EIT was increased with temperature (12-60 K), which could be simulated by increasing non-radiation decay rate between coherently coupled ground states in Bloch equation for Lambda type three level. The non-radiation decay was mainly due to hole spin dephasing in the system for EIT via coulomb correlation. The hole spin dephasing rate was found with increasing lattice temperature and well accorded to the past results of time resolving method with n-doping material.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in low-doped n-GaAs

Caspar H. van der Wal, Maksym Sladkov, Alok U. Chaubal +6 more

We report the observation of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) with an ensemble of donor-bound electrons in low-doped n-GaAs. We used pure GaAs layers with Si doping at very low concentration in a strong magnetic field. EIT was implemented with the two optical transitions that exist for the three-level system that is formed by the two electron spin states and a donor-bound trion state. Our results show that EIT with n-GaAs can serve as a platform for studies of nonlocal quantum entanglement with spins in semiconductors, as well as for controlling and probing dynamical nuclear polarization with coherent electron spins.

Transient electromagnetically induced transparency in self-assembled quantum dots

S. Marcinkevičius, A. Gushterov, J.P. Reithmaier

A coherent absorption dip in pump-probe experiment performed on a ten layer optically thin InGaAs∕GaAs quantum dot (QD) structure has been observed. Measurements performed for different wavelengths, polarizations, pulse widths, and temperatures allow assigning the dip to electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). The EIT scheme is based on coupling of excitons with different spins in asymmetric QDs. Using spectrally narrow pulses, detrimental effect of the inhomogeneous broadening is reduced since only the QDs with transitions resonant with the pulse wavelength are addressed and participate in the EIT. The effect has been observed at temperatures up to 140K.

Ladder-type electromagnetically induced transparency with optical pumping effect

Zong-Syun He, Jyh-Hung Tsai, Yung-Yung Chang +2 more

This paper thoroughly elucidates the relative intensities of the probe transmission in a ladder-type electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) system by considering the optical pumping effect. The observed EIT spectra reveal a different probe or coupling power dependence for various transmission peaks. In addition to causing quantum interference, the probe and coupling laser fields realign the population of Zeeman sublevels in the ground state through optical pumping. Analytical results indicate that the re-distribution levels, failing to contribute to the EIT peaks, either out of transition path or zero transition probability, significantly affect the transmission intensity.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in two channels of a ΛΛΛ system

S. M. Iftiquar

We show two channel electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) spectra at various optical power. The two channels are coupling field and probe field absorption. It is shown that EIT width and intensity increases linearly with pump power. A density matrix calculation is used to determine nature of EIT spectra induced by optical field. It has been observed that EIT occurs in cases when coupling laser is at fixed frequency while probe laser frequency is scanned, when coupling laser is frequency scanned and probe is at fixed frequency.

Electromagnetically induced transparency at high optical power

S. M. Iftiquar

We observe electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in Rb vapor at various optical intensities, starting from below saturation to several times the saturation intensity. The observed Lorentzian width of the EIT signal is very small. Solving the time dependant density matrix equation of motion with a phenomenological decay constant, we find an expression suitable in explaining the EIT signal. In this experimental observation and theoretical analysis intensity of EIT signal and its Lorentzian width increases with Rabi frequency of optical field.
