Frequency conversion of cw CO2laser radiation fromλ=10.6μto the 276.8 nm range in a mixture of thallium and cesium vapor

Vasily G. Arkhipkin, A. K. Popov, V. P. Timofeev +1 more

Frequency conversion of cw CO 2 laser radiation to the 276.8 nm ultraviolet range was achieved in a mixture of thallium and cesium vapor by parametric mixing with radiation from a rhodamine 6G dye laser. Two-photon resonance of the pump radiation with the 6 P 1/2 –7 P 3/2 forbidden transition and the proximity of the converted radiation frequency to the frequency of the 6 D 3/2 –7 P 3/2 transition in the thallium atom were utilized. Cesium vapor was used to match the refractive indices of the interacting waves.

A 535 nm Active Atomic Line Filter Employing The Thallium Metastable State As An Absorbing Medium

C. S. Liu, P. J. Chantry, C. L. Chen

A new kind of active atomic line filter (ALF) using the thallium metastable state as an absorption medium is discussed. The basic principle underlying the operatiqn of a Tℓ-ALF is based on photodissociative excitation of TℓCℓ, or transfer excitation of Tℓ(2P3/2) in Tℓ-Cs mixtures. The operating wavelength of a Tℓ-ALF is at 535 nm which matches the wavelength of a frequency-doubled Nd-Bel laser. The results of modeling calculations and related experimental studies are presented.
