Abstract

A physical principle of the design of two parallel coprocessors for solving the knapsack problem was proposed. These coprocessors operate on the basis of polarization properties of multipulse excitation and recording of the photon echo signals. The exciting pulse area is optimized to improve the resolution in solving combinatory problems.

Multipulse excitation of photon echo and principles of parallel functioning of optical echo-processors

Ivan I. Popov, M. Yu. Kokurin, Vera T. Nigmatullina

The phenomenon of multipulse photon echo in two-level quantum systems is used to construct a conceptual sketch of a device which involves two optical coprocessors operating in parallel. The device is designed for accelerated solution of NP-hard problems of discrete analysis. As an example, the application of coprocessors to the trinomial knapsack problem is considered in detail. The coprocessors work with sequences of exciting laser pulses of different amplitude-time forms and polarizations.

A method for optical data processing, based on the mode of multipulse excitation of photon echo signals, has been proposed and applied to solution of the knapsack problem. In this case, along with the recognition of solvability, the solution itself is found in the optical processor. A scheme of a possible optical echo processor on molecular iodine vapor is presented.

Photon echo as a tool for optical digital processing

Eduard A. Manykin, Nicholas A. Chernishev

The photon echo application for optical digital processing of discrete images by the method of managing operators was examined. Photon echo is the pulse of light which is emitted spontaneously from a system of atoms previously irradiated by two or more coherent light pulses with length and power of 102divided by10-1 ps and 104divided by105 kW, respectively. These systems of resonant atoms are crystals with various paramagnetic activators. By using photon echo, the resonant systems are able to store and retrieve wave-front and temporal form of one of the excitation pulses. The photon echo application for information processing allows one to solve a number of problems with high efficiency. Different photon echo generating conditions can be utilized practically in all processor components, which creates certain prospects for using this effect in optical computing purposes.

Dependence of the Photon Echo Polarization on the Second Pulse Area

Igor V. Yevseyev, Решетов Владимир Александрович

With regard to the depolarizing collisions the polarization properties of the photon echo formed by two exciting pulses linearly polarized at an angle ψ to each other with arbitrary values of their areas and arbitrary ratios of the durations and the time of reversible Doppler relaxation are obtained. The case of the small area of the first exciting pulse is examined. It is shown that the polarization properties of the photon echo can be described by equations obtained in the limit of small areas for both the first and the second exciting pulses up to the area of the second exciting pulse of the order of unity.

Physical principles of realization of quantum evaluations in technique of a photon echo

Ivan I. Popov

This work is dedicated to investigation the properties and opportunities of photon echo with the purpose of development the physical principle of embodying the optical evaluations on a superposition state of the group of excited particles of resonant gas, which could serve as a basis for increasing of features of quantum information processing regime which is supposed in work. One of the possible physical representations of a quaternion in the signal of photon echo is offered. The principle of the optical echo-processor operation is described to fulfill the operations with quantities which are introduced by quaternions. The example of optical transformation of quaternion quantity in the optical echo-processor is given.
