Field-induced incommensurate order and possible supersolid in theS= 1/2 frustrated diamond chain

Abstract

The magnetization process of the distorted diamond chain is theoretically investigated using the numerical exact diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group calculation. It is found that for some specified parameters the ground-state critical behavior is dominated by the incommensurate spin correlation parallel to the external magnetic field, around the 2/3 magnetization plateau. In the presence of interchain interaction it should be an incommensurate long-range order which possibly leads to a supersolid if coexisting with the usual transverse antiferromagnetic long-range order.

Field-Induced Incommensurate Order in a Quasi-1D S=1 Antiferromagnet

Tôru Sakai, Kiyomi Okamoto, Kouichi Okunishi +1 more

We investigate the S=1 frustrated antiferromagnetic quantum spin chain in magnetic field, using numerical exact diagonalization of finite‐size clusters. The calculated critical exponents of the spin correlation functions indicate that the incommensurate spin correlation parallel to the external field can be stronger than the transverse antiferromagnetic one for some intermediate fields. When such an incommensurate correlation is dominant, the quasi‐1D system with finite interchain interactions should exhibit long‐range incommensurate order. We also discuss a possible mechanism for the recently observed field‐induced phase of NDMAP within this framework.

Incommensurate state in a quasi-one-dimensional S=1∕2 bond-alternating antiferromagnet with frustration in magnetic fields

Takahumi Suzuki, Sei-ichiro Suga

We investigate the critical properties of the $S=1∕2$ bond-alternating spin chain with a next-nearest-neighbor interaction in magnetic fields. By the numerical calculation and the exact solution based on the effective Hamiltonian, we show that there is a parameter region where the longitudinal incommensurate spin correlation becomes dominant around the half-magnetization of the saturation. Possible interpretations of our results are discussed. We next investigate the effects of the interchain interaction $({J}^{\ensuremath{'}})$. The staggered susceptibility and the uniform magnetization are calculated by combining the density-matrix renormalization group method with the interchain mean-field theory. For the parameters where the dominant longitudinal incommensurate spin correlation appears in the case ${J}^{\ensuremath{'}}=0$, the staggered long-range order does not emerge up to a certain critical value of ${J}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ around the half-magnetization of the saturation. We calculate the static structure factor in such a parameter region. The size dependence of the static structure factor at $k=2{k}_{F}$ implies that the system has a tendency to form an incommensurate long-range order around the half-magnetization of the saturation. We discuss the recent experimental results for the NMR relaxation rate in magnetic fields performed for pentafluorophenyl nitronyl nitroxide.

Possibility of field-induced incommensurate order in a quasi-one-dimensional frustrated spin system

Nobuya Maeshima, Kouichi Okunishi, Kazuki Okamoto +2 more

We study an incommensurate long-range order induced by an external magnetic field in a quasi-one-dimensional bond-alternating spin system, F5PNN, focusing on the role of the frustrating interaction which can be enhanced by a high-pressure effect. On the basis of the density matrix renormalization group analysis of a microscopic model for F5PNN, we present several H-T phase diagrams for typical parameters of the frustrating next-nearest-neighbour coupling and the interchain interaction, and then discuss how the field-induced incommensurate order develops by the frustration effect in such phase diagrams. A magnetization plateau at half the saturation moment is also mentioned.

Magnetization plateaus, spin-canted orders and field-induced transitions in a spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a distorted diamond-decorated honeycomb lattice

Katarína Karľová, Jozef Strečka

Abstract We investigate the spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a distorted diamond-decorated honeycomb lattice in an external magnetic field. By combining density-matrix renormalization group, sign-problem-free quantum Monte Carlo in a mixed dimer–monomer basis, exact diagonalization, and an effective lattice-gas approach, we determine the ground-state phase diagram and analyze the finite-temperature magnetization process. The model hosts a rich variety of frustration-induced quantum phases including a quantum ferrimagnetic phase of Lieb–Mattis type, a quantum ferromagnetic phase, a spin-canted phase, a monomer–dimer phase, a dimer–tetramer liquid, a dimer-tetramer solid, and two distinct one-dimensional-crossover phases of ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic character. Depending on the lattice distortion, we identify robust magnetization plateaus at 0, 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of the saturation magnetization originating from competing local dimer and tetramer singlets. Finite-temperature QMC data reveal how thermal fluctuations progressively smear the plateau structure, while the effective lattice-gas description reliably captures the corresponding low-temperature behavior.

Field-Induced Phase Transitions and Long-Range Orders in theS=1/2 Spin Bond-Alternating Chain with Frustrating Interaction

Nobuya Maeshima, Kouichi Okunishi, Kiyomi Okamoto +2 more

We study field-induced phase transitions and long-range orders in the S =1/2 spin bond-alternating chain with frustrating interaction. By using the inter-chain mean field theory combined with the finite temperature density matrix renormalization group, we investigate properties of field-induced long-range orders and phase transitions. We find that the inter-chain interaction strongly affects the realized phases of this system.

Field-induced incommensurate ordering in Heisenberg chains coupled by Ising interaction: Model for ytterbium aluminum perovskite YbAlO3

Cliò Efthimia Agrapidis, Jeroen van den Brink, Satoshi Nishimoto

We study isotropic antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains coupled by antiferromagnetic Ising interaction as an effective spin model for the ytterbium aluminum perovskite ${\mathrm{YbAlO}}_{3}$. Using the density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method we calculate the magnetization curve, local spin, central charge, and dynamical spin structure factors in the presence of magnetic field. From the fitting of the experimental magnetization curve, the effective intrachain and interchain couplings are estimated as $J=2.3$ K and ${J}_{\mathrm{ic}}=0.8$ K, respectively. We can quantitatively explain the experimental observations: (i) phase transition from antiferromagnetic to incommensurate order at field 0.35 T, and (ii) quantum critical behaviors at the saturation field of 1.21 T. Furthermore, the low-energy excitations in the experimental inelastic neutron scattering spectra can be well described by our DMRG results of the dynamical structure factors.
