Limitations to the realization of the Jaynes-Cummings model with electric-dipole coupling

R. J. C. Spreeuw, J. P. Woerdman

We show that the Jaynes-Cummings model cannot be realized when using a strongly driven electric-dipole transition. The limitations are inherent in electric-dipole coupling and are much more severe than those recently discussed by Crisp [Phys. Rev. A 43, 2430 (1991)]. The level shifts associated with the violation of the rotating-wave approximation are roughly equal for circular and linear polarizations.

Time evolution of two-atom entanglement and thermal entanglement in a generalized Jaynes-Cummings model

Shao-Hua Xiang, Xiong Yang, Kehui Song +1 more

In this paper, we investigate twoatom entanglement in time evolution and the thermal entanglement in a generalized JaynesCummings model by means of concurrence. The result shows that the twoatom entangled state appears with periodicity, which decreases with increasing dipoledipole coupling between the two atoms. In a finite temperature, the concurrence decreases with increasing temperature, and the thermal entanglement vanishes in this JaynesCummings model when the system temperature reaches the critical temperature, which is proportional to the dipoledipole coupling strength of the two atoms. For typical experimental data, the critical temperature is on the order of 10-5K. In addition, there exists the quantum phase transition in this JaynesCummings model

Application of the coupled cluster method to the Jaynes-Cummings model without the rotating-wave approximation

R. F. Bishop, NEIL J. DAVIDSON, R. M. Quick +1 more

We investigate the Rabi Hamiltonian (or the Jaynes-Cummings model without the rotating-wave approximation), describing the coupling of a single mode of electromagnetic radiation to a two-level system, by means of the coupled cluster method. We find strong evidence for a second-order quantum phase transition. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
