Fourth-order interference between independent biphotons

Abstract

The interference of biphotons emitted during collinear parametric scattering from two spatially separated regions is investigated experimentally and theoretically. It is shown that in this case the phase of the interference is determined by the pump wavelength and there is no need to equalize the optical paths for radiation from different regions.

Biphoton light generation in polarization-frequency bell states

A. V. Burlakov, S. P. Kulik, Georgy O. Rytikov +1 more

Four polarization-frequency Bell states are obtained experimentally for photon pairs (biphotons) emitted during spontaneous parametric scattering from continuous pumping in the collinear frequency-nondegenerate regime. The polarization properties of such states are investigated. It is shown that biphoton light in the singlet Bell state is not polarized in the second or fourth order in the field.

Interference of biphotons upon parametric down-conversion in the field of biharmonic pumping

I I Zolotoverkh

We report theoretical investigation of interference of biphotons emitted upon type-II collinear parametric down-conversion in the case of biharmonic pumping. Interference occurs when an optical or electronic shutter is used as an amplitude modulator in the experimental scheme. The phase of the interference is shown to depend on the time interval between the instant the shutter is opened and the instant corresponding to the maximum pump intensity. The main parameter affecting the visibility of the interference pattern is a time interval during which the shutter is open.

Interference effects in spontaneous two-photon parametric scattering from two macroscopic regions

A. V. Burlakov, Maria V. Chekhova, Давид Николаевич Клышко +4 more

Two types of interference were observed using two-photon spontaneous parametric radiation from two nonlinear interaction regions. Two experimental setups analogous to the Young and Mach-Zehnder interferometers were used. An interesting feature of the two-photon Young interference is the opposite conditions for its observation by two different methods: by measuring intensity of light at a single frequency and by measuring correlation of intensities at two conjugated frequencies (method of coincidences). Two-photon Mach-Zehnder interference resembles the Ramsey method of separated fields, which is used in beam spectroscopy. A simple macroscopic quantum model agrees well with the experimental results and enables their interpretation in terms of ``biphotons'' carrying information about the pump phase.

Quantum interference of biphotons with a Doppler frequency shift

E G Lariontsev

We report a theoretical study of transformation of a biphoton state of light under Bragg diffraction on a travelling sound wave in an acousto-optic modulator (AOM). It is shown that the diffraction of AOM biphotons emitted during the collinear parametric scattering of light leads to a shift of the carrier frequency of a biphoton wave packet, which exceeds twice the Doppler frequency shift for the classical field. A method is proposed for measuring the Doppler frequency shift of a biphoton, which is based on interference between independent biphotons.
