Abstract

We show penalty-free wavelength conversion of QPSK signals based on single-pump four-wave mixing in highly nonlinear fibre. Phase distortions due to the intentionally used pump phase modulation are compensated by electronic signal processing in the coherent receiver.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel bidirectional modulation format converter that can simultaneously phase multiplex and de-multiplex PSK signals between QPSK and BPSK formats all-optically by employing four-wave mixing (FWM) in a single HNLF.

Orthogonal Phase Quadratures Conversion to Different Wavelengths Through Phase-Sensitive Four Wave Mixing in an Highly Nonlinear Fiber

Phase-sensitive processes exploiting FWM in an HNLF allow simultaneously converting two orthogonal quadratures of an optical signal to different wavelengths. Conversion efficiencies to two 90°-phase-shifted idlers exceeding 10 dB of phase-sensitive extinction ratio are obtained experimentally.

Self-pumping Wavelength Conversion of Mixed Order PSK Signals by FWM to Realise Band Conversion

Kyle R. H. Bottrill, David J. Richardson, Francesca R. Parmigiani +1 more

We present an FWM based wavelength conversion that differs from the typical approach in requiring no additional pump sources; two PSK signals are mixed in an HNLF, effectively pumping each other to facilitate wavelength conversion. The approach enables us to demonstrate band conversion as well as conversion of PSK signals of differing order.
