Abstract

The electromagnetic superradiance of a nanomagnet crystal (magnetic molecules) subjected to a resonant driving magnetic field and a dc magnetic field has been theoretically investigated. The driving magnetic field is supposed to be strong enough so that it essentially influences the spectrum of the magnetic molecules. The conditions favorable for observing the superradiance have been formulated.

Superradiance from Crystals of Molecular Nanomagnets

Eugene M. Chudnovsky, Dmitry A. Garanin

We show that crystals of molecular nanomagnets can exhibit giant magnetic relaxation due to the Dicke superradiance of electromagnetic waves. Rigorous theory is presented that combines superradiance with the Landau-Zener effect.

Quantum Dynamics of Molecular Nanomagnets in a Resonant Cavity and the Maser Effect

César Augusto Dartora, G. G. Cabrera

We study the dynamics of molecular nanomagnets through a fully quantum mechanical model describing high-spin and high-anisotropy magnetic molecules subjected to a time-dependent magnetic field along the quantization axis, which continuously inverts the population of spin states. Crystals of molecular nanomagnets placed inside a resonant cavity interact with a quantized electromagnetic field. Relaxation of excited states takes place by means of spin-photon interaction, allowing stimulated emission of radiation and creating a maser effect.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in crystals of magnetic molecules

G. A. Vugalter, Alexey V. Shvetsov

The effect of electromagnetically induced transparency in crystals of magnetic molecules was theoretically investigated. The problem of choosing the polarizations of strong and weak resonant magnetic fields acting on a crystal is discussed. Estimates of the amplitude of strong resonant field that is necessary for manifestation of this effect in crystals of magnetic molecules Mn 12 and Fe 8 are reported.

Theoretical investigation of electromagnetically induced transparency in a crystal of molecular magnets

Alexey V. Shvetsov, G. A. Vugalter, A. I. Grebeneva

The elimination of the absorption of a weak electromagnetic wave in a three-level atomic system in the presence of a strong resonant electromagnetic wave is well known in optics. This effect is termed electromagnetically induced transparency. We have theoretically investigated this effect in a crystal of molecular magnets. The crystal is subject to two (weak and strong) resonant magnetic fields. We discuss the choice of polarization of the magnetic fields. The influence of the distribution of the longitudinal anisotropy constant and the Land\'e factor on the manifestation of electromagnetically induced transparency has been studied. The amplitude of the strong field required for observation of the effect has been estimated.

Electromagnetic radiation emanating from the molecular nanomagnet Fe$_{8}$

Amit Keren, Oren Shafir

Photons emitted by transition between the discrete levels of single molecular magnets might obey the elementary condition for Dicke’s super-radiance. We investigate this possibility in the Fe8 molecule where magnetization jumps are known to occur at discrete magnetic-field values. We found energy bursts each time the molecule undergoes a magnetization jump, confirming their quantum nature. A series of tests indicated that photons carry out the energy and that indeed these photons obey the elementary conditions for super-radiance.
