Abstract

Abstract We developed a high‐resolution Michelson interferometer in order to stabilize the relative phase of double pulses by using a He‐Ne two‐frequency laser positioning system. A very stable phase‐locked pulse pair whose phase difference was only 4° at 900 nm was realized. Using a high‐resolution Michelson interferometer, we demonstrated coherent control of an exciton in a GaAs/AlGaAs crescent‐shaped quantum wire. The dephasing time of the single quantum wire was 400 fs. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Electron Comm Jpn, 94(5): 25–32, 2011; Published online in Wiley Online Library ( wileyonlinelibrary.com ). Development of high resolution Michelson interferometer for stable phase-locked ultrashort pulse pair generation

Takumi Okada, Kazuhiro Komori, Keishiro Goshima +5 more

We developed a high resolution Michelson interferometer with a two-frequency He-Ne laser positioning system in order to stabilize the relative phase of a pulse pair. The control resolution corresponded to a 12 as time resolution or a phase of 1.5 degrees at 900 nm. This high resolution Michelson interferometer can generate a phase-locked pulse pair either with a specific relative phase such as 0 or pi radians or with an arbitrary phase. Coherent control of an InAs self-assembled quantum dot was demonstrated using the high resolution Michelson interferometer with a microspectroscopy system.

Coherent Control of Exciton in a Single Quantum Dot Using High-Resolution Michelson Interferometer

Takumi Okada, Kazuhiro Komori, Keishiro Goshima +6 more

We developed a high-resolution Michelson interferometer with a He–Ne two-frequency laser positioning system, and measured the coherent carrier dynamics of a single InAs self-assembled quantum dot (SAQD) using a micro-spectroscopy system. The phase-locked double pulses were stabilized, with the maximum deviation being below 10 nm during the long measurement time of 1 h. Using this system, coherent control of an exciton in an InAs SAQD with very fine phase stabilization was demonstrated. The dephasing time of the single quantum dots was 9.5 ps which is close to that estimated from the homogeneous linewidth in the photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectrum.

Fine phase control of coherent excitons using pulse shaping technique

Kazuhiro Komori, M. Watanabe, Takeyoshi Sugaya +2 more

Summary form only given. Ultrafast coherent control of excitons in semiconductors have been reported using Michelson interferometer with precise control of the pulse interval in time domain. In order to improve the phase controllability and realize arbitrary manipulation, the pulse shaping technique is a more attractive candidate. In this paper, we report very fine phase control of coherent, excitons in GaAs/AlGaAs single quantum wells using phase-locked pulses prepared by pulse shaping technique.

Ultrafast Coherent Control of Excitons and Exciton-Polaritons in Quantum Nanostructure

Kazuhiro Komori, Gary R. Hayes, Takumi Okada +4 more

We have demonstrated ultrafast coherent control of excitons and exciton-polaritons in semiconductor quantum nanostructures. An InGaAs/AlGaAs multi-quantum-well Bragg structure and an AlGaAs/GaAs crescent-shaped quantum wire structure were used as samples for the control of the exciton-polariton and excitons in the nanostructure. In the multi-quantum-well Bragg sample, a two-stage decay due to the super-radiant exciton-polariton mode is clearly observed under the resonance conditions. Highly sensitive coherent control measurement enables us to observe the dephasing characteristics in the crescent-shaped quantum wire sample, and a very fast dephasing time T 2 of between 200 fs and 300 fs with power dependence was observed.

Coherent control of excitons in single and coupled quantum wells

Kazuhiro Komori, Takashi Asahara, Takeyoshi Sugaya +2 more

In this paper, we report the manipulation of coherent exciton in single- and coupled-quantum-wells using phase locked pulses generated by pulse shaping techniques instead of Michelson interferometer. The pulse shaping system with double liquid crystal spatial light modulator, and the Ti3+-sapphire laser with pulse width of about 120 fs are used to generate phase-locked pulses. GaAs/AlGaAs quantum-wells (exciton energy: E0 equals 1.5470 eV) and asymmetric double coupled quantum-well structures (exciton energy: E1 equals 1.5348 eV, E2 equals 1.5422 eV) are used in the experiments. Manipulation of coherent exciton are demonstrated by observation of both the reflectivity-change in the pump-probe and the diffracted power in the degenerate-four-wave-mixing (DFWM) measurements using phase- locked twin-pulse (k1) and single-pulse (k2). Coherent destruction in single quantum-well is observed by the rapid decrease of reflectivity-change after the arrival of the second pulse (pulse interval: 500 fs) and good coherent control with 87% of coherent carrier destruction is demonstrated at low excitation power of 0.15 mW. In case of coupled quantum-wells, the modulation of SLM is carefully set to the twin-pulse having the spectrum with a minimum at both exciton wavelengths for destructive condition. After arrival of the second pulse, coherent control of the quantum beats are observed in DFWM signal.
