Lower and upper bounds on the critical temperature for anisotropic three-dimensional Ising model

Abstract

The Ising model is considered on a simple cubic lattice, with a coupling constant J along one axis and coupling constants J’ along the remaining two axes. The transfer-matrix technique and an extended phenomenological renormalization group theory [18, 19] are applied to obtain two-sided bounds on the critical temperature for the model with J′/J ≤1. The bounds monotonically converge with decreasing J′/J and provide improved estimates for the phase-transition temperature in anisotropic three-dimensional Ising model, as compared with those available from the literature.

The critical temperature of a fully anisotropic three-dimensional Ising model

M. A. Yurishchev

The critical temperature of a three-dimensional Ising model on a simple cubic lattice with different coupling strengths along all three spatial directions is calculated via the transfer matrix method and a finite-size scaling for L*L* infinity clusters (L=2 and 3). The results obtained are compared with available calculations. An exact analytical solution is found for the 2*2* infinity Ising chain with fully anisotropic interactions (arbitrary J x , J y and J z ).

Universality in the partially anisotropic three-dimensional Ising lattice

M. A. Yurishchev

Using transfer-matrix extended phenomenological renormalization-group methods the critical properties of spin-1/2 Ising model on a simple-cubic lattice with partly anisotropic coupling strengths J = (J ′,J ′,J) are studied. Universality of both fundamental critical exponents yt and yh is confirmed. It is shown that the critical finite-size scaling amplitude ratios U = A χ (4)Aκ/A 2 χ, Y1 = A κ ′′/Aχ, and Y2 = A κ (4)/A χ (4) are independent of the lattice anisotropy parameter ∆ = J ′ /J. By this for the last above invariant of the threedimensional Ising universality class we give the first quantitative estimate: Y2 ≃ 2.013 (shape L × L × ∞, periodic boundary conditions in both transverse directions). Universality in the partially anisotropic three-dimensional Ising lattice

M. A. Yurishchev

Using transfer-matrix extended phenomenological renormalization-group methods, we study the critical properties of the spin-1/2 Ising model on a simple-cubic lattice with partly anisotropic coupling strengths $$\mathop J\limits^ \to = (J',J',J)$$ . The universality of both fundamental critical exponents y t and y h is confirmed. It is shown that the critical finite-size scaling amplitude ratios $$U = A_{\chi ^{(4)} } A_\kappa /A_\chi ^2 ,Y_1 = A_{\kappa ''} /A_\chi$$ , and $$Y_2 = A_{\kappa ^{(4)} } /A_{\chi ^{(4)} }$$ are independent of the lattice anisotropy parameter Δ=J′/J. For the Y 2 invariant of the three-dimensional Ising universality class, we give the first quantitative estimate Y 2≈2.013 (shape L×L×∞, periodic boundary conditions in both transverse directions).

On the critical temperature of a quasi-one-dimensional Ising model

M. A. Yurishchev, A. M. Sterlin

Within the framework of a phenomenological renormalization group theory, the calculation of the critical temperature of the three-dimensional spatially anisotropic Ising model is carried out. In the calculation, clusters n*n* infinity with n=1, 2, 3 and 4 are used. The results are applied to estimate the reduced values of the interchain interactions in quasi-one-dimensional Ising magnets.

Critical behavior of the anisotropic Heisenberg model by effective-field renormalization group

J. Ricardo de Sousa, I. P. Fittipaldi

A real-space effective-field renormalization-group method (ERFG) recently derived for computing critical properties of Ising spins is extended to treat the quantum spin-1/2 anisotropic Heisenberg model. The formalism is based on a generalized but approximate Callen–Suzuki spin relation and utilizes a convenient differential operator expansion technique. The method is illustrated in several lattice structures by employing its simplest approximation version in which clusters with one (N′=1) and two (N=2) spins are used. The results are compared with those obtained from the standard mean-field (MFRG) and Migdal–Kadanoff (MKRG) renormalization-group treatments and it is shown that this technique leads to rather accurate results. It is shown that, in contrast with the MFRG and MKRG predictions, the EFRG, besides correctly distinguishing the geometries of different lattice structures, also provides a vanishing critical temperature for all two-dimensional lattices in the isotropic Heisenberg limit. For the simple cubic lattice, the dependence of the transition temperature Tc with the exchange anisotropy parameter Δ [i.e., Tc(Δ)], and the resulting value for the critical thermal crossover exponent φ [i.e., Tc≂Tc(0)+AΔ1/φ ] are in quite good agreement with results available in the literature in which more sophisticated treatments are used.
