Sub-Doppler and subnatural narrowing of an absorption line induced by interacting dark resonances in a tripod system

Chana Goren, A. D. Wilson‐Gordon, M. Rosenbluh +1 more

A method is presented for obtaining sub-Doppler and subnatural narrowing and increased absorption of a spectral line. The ultranarrow spectral line is confined between two closely spaced electromagnetically induced transparency windows in a nearly degenerate tripod atomic system formed by an ${F}_{g}=1\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{F}_{e}=0$ transition, split by a magnetic field. The system is driven by a $\ensuremath{\sigma}$-polarized pump and probed by a tunable $\ensuremath{\pi}$-polarized laser. It can be used to measure small magnetic fields and also as a magneto-optic switch.

Realization of cavity linewidth narrowing via interacting dark resonances in a tripod-type electromagnetically induced transparency system

Ying Bo Kang, Yueping Niu, Dijun Chen +3 more

Cavity linewidth narrowing via double-dark resonances is experimentally observed using the Rb87 Zeeman splitting sublevels. With the steep dispersion led by the interacting dark resonances in the tripod-type electromagnetically induced transparency system, we narrow the cavity linewidth to 250 kHz at room temperature. Furthermore, the position of this ultranarrow cavity linewidth can be tuned in a 60 MHz coupling field detuning range.

Raman–Ramsey electromagnetically induced transparency in the configuration of counterpropagating pump and probe in vacuum Rb cell

I. S. Radojičić, Milan Radonjić, Marina M. Lekić +3 more

Counterpropagating, spatially separated hollow pump and coaxial probe laser beams generate narrow Zeeman electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) resonances in the vacuum Rb cell. The lasers are locked to D2 line transition Fg=2→Fe=1 of Rb87. For the probe laser beam intensity between 0.1 and 3.0 mW/cm2 this Ramsey-type configuration yields dual-structured resonances having a narrow peak on top of a broader pedestal. Linewidths of the narrow peak are nearly independent of the probe laser beam intensity and of the probe diameter (for diameters 0.8 and 2.7 mm), provided that the dark region between the pump and the probe beams is fixed. At the probe laser beam intensities below 0.1 mW/cm2 Zeeman EIT is a single narrow resonance. With this geometry of laser beams, and at low probe intensity, the presence of the pump enables the probe EIT, i.e., the probe transmission becomes enhanced in a narrow spectral window. Accompanying theoretical model showed good quantitative agreement with the measurements.
