Einstein-De Broglie relations on the lattice

Miguel Lorente

Historically the starting point of wave mechanics is the Planck and Einstein-de Broglie relations for the energy and momentum of a particle, where the momentum is connected to the group velocity of the wave packet. We translate the arguments given by de Broglie to the case of a wave defined on the grid points of a space-time lattice and explore the physical consequences such as integral period, wave length, discrete energy, momentum and rest mass.

Quantum Diffusion: Decoherence and Localization

Sushanta Dattagupta

Quantum mechanics rests on the axiom of wave particle duality. A point particle in the classical sense is a wave packet with a de Broglie wavelength. The latter increases as the particle mass and the temperature decrease. Thus quantum mechanics predicts an extended wave packet for tiny subatomic particles, especially when the temperature is low.

De Broglie waves, the Schrödinger equation, and relativity. I. Exclusion of the rest mass energy in the dispersion relation

Masanori Sato

The difference between de Broglie waves and the Schrödinger equation is the rest mass. The dispersion relation of de Broglie waves includes the rest mass, but the Schrödinger equation does not. Synchrotron radiation is when de Broglie waves shake off virtual photons and emit real photons. It also shows that synchrotron radiation is not compatible with relativity.
