Quantum states of the light for dynamic diffraction in the DFB system

Abstract

A new method of formation of quantum states of the light in a system with non-linear dynamic diffraction is discussed for the first time. The squeezed states of the light are obtained for two geometries (Bragg and Laue) of non-linear diffraction in a spatially periodic medium. The approach also gives new opportunities for the experimental verification of the quantum properties of the light.

Laser-induced phase transitions in liquid crystals and distributed feedback-fluctuations, energy exchange, and instabilities: squeezed polarized states and intensity correlations

Laser-induced bulk gratings and temporal instabilities of nonlinear wave processes with different components of light polarization have been studied in the liquid crystals (LC). A mirrorless feedback arises because of the non-local nonlinear response of an anisotropic elastic medium on the external field. The multiplicative nature of the molecular fluctuations in the LC under external field are discussed and the light-induced reorientation effects in this medium can be considered as a noise-induced phase transition. . An analysis is made of a new method of creating optical quantum states and of a system for controlling these states by dynamic diffraction in a spatially periodic structure. The process involves energy exchange between waves with fixed phase parameters under Bragg diffraction conditions.

Two-mode interactions in DFB systems: polarization-squeezed light and QND measurements

A. P. Alodjants, Sergei M Arakelyan, Anatoliy S. Chirkin

The possibility of formation of polarization-squeezed light in the case of the interaction of two orthogonally polarized waves in the spatio-periodical Kerr medium is considered. It is shown that at the output of such a nonlinear medium fluctuations of one of the Stokes parameter can be less than ones incoherent state. For the first time a procedure of quantum nondemolition measurement (QND) of the Stokes parameters of light is offered and analyzed.

Bragg Diffraction in Atomic Systems in Quantum Degeneracy Conditions

V. M. Porozova, V. A. Pivovarov, L. V. Gerasimov +1 more

Studies of the scattering of light on systems of identical atoms under conditions of their quantum degeneracy have been reviewed. The formation of a periodic spatial structure caused by the interference of material waves is responsible for coherent resonance scattering similar to Bragg diffraction on regular spatial inhomogeneities. The interference of macroscopic material waves that is observed in experiments with a Bose–Einstein condensate forms a dielectric medium in the region of optical transparency of the sample that has the properties of a photonic crystal. Common characteristics and differences between the scattering of light on atomic systems under quantum degeneracy conditions and scattering on one-dimensional atomic lattices where the positions of atoms are described by classical statistics have been discussed.
