Abstract

An analysis is made of a new method of creating optical quantum states and of a system for controlling these states by dynamic diffraction in a spatially periodic structure. The process involves energy exchange between waves with fixed phase parameters under Bragg diffraction conditions.

Quantum states of the light for dynamic diffraction in the DFB system

A. P. Alodjants, Sergei M Arakelyan, Yu. S. Chilingarian

A new method of formation of quantum states of the light in a system with non-linear dynamic diffraction is discussed for the first time. The squeezed states of the light are obtained for two geometries (Bragg and Laue) of non-linear diffraction in a spatially periodic medium. The approach also gives new opportunities for the experimental verification of the quantum properties of the light.

Higher-order distributed feedback and generation of light

Pavel A Apanasevich, Anatolii A Afanas'ev, M. V. Korolkov

An investigation is made of a higher-order distributed feedback which appears in a medium characterized by nonharmonic modulation of the parameters due to different radiation diffraction processes. The averaging method is used to obtain reduced equations for the amplitudes of opposite waves and expressions for the gain (absorption coefficient) as well as for the coupling between the waves, subject to all the gratings induced in a medium. Competition between the contributions of various diffraction processes to distributed feedback of arbitrary order is studied. An analysis is made of the coupling coefficient of waves in a dye solution laser with a second-order distributed feedback due to gratings formed by the populations of levels participating in a resonance transition and also thermal gratings induced in the active medium because of saturation of spatially inhomogeneous pumping. A calculation is made of the parameters of the medium for which the competition between the various diffraction processes makes the greatest contribution to a higher-order distributed feedback

Laser-induced phase transitions in liquid crystals and distributed feedback-fluctuations, energy exchange, and instabilities: squeezed polarized states and intensity correlations

Sergei M Arakelyan, Yu. S. Chilingaryan, Roman B. Alaverdyan +3 more

Laser-induced bulk gratings and temporal instabilities of nonlinear wave processes with different components of light polarization have been studied in the liquid crystals (LC). A mirrorless feedback arises because of the non-local nonlinear response of an anisotropic elastic medium on the external field. The multiplicative nature of the molecular fluctuations in the LC under external field are discussed and the light-induced reorientation effects in this medium can be considered as a noise-induced phase transition. . The quantum aspects of behavior of the radiation fluctuations for passing through the LC light are considered. A new method of formation of quantum states of the light in the linear system at dynamic diffraction is discussed for the first time. The squeezed states of the field and the photon superbunching are obtained for two geometries (Bragg and Laue) of diffraction in spatially periodic medium. The approach gives a new opportunities for a verification of quantum properties of the light in experiment.

Reflection-free distributed feedback in two-photon stimulated emission

Лев Абрамович Ривлин

Phase-matched energy exchange between counterpropagating waves in the course of stimulated two-photon emission is considered. This exchange determines complex dynamics of a laser and is equivalent to a dynamic nonlinear distributed feedback in the absence of any reflecting or periodically scattering structures.

Reflection of radiation from a moving polarization region in resonant Bragg structures

Vladimir V. Likhanskii, Aleksandr G Sukharev

An investigation is made of the control of the reflection of a signal from a moving induced polarization region in resonant Bragg structures. Expressions are obtained for the reflection coefficients as a function of the difference between the frequency of a signal and that of a resonant transition, and of the difference between the wave vectors of the radiation and of the periodic Bragg structure. The conditions under which the reflection coefficients are high are determined.

Spatial effects in squeezed states of light beams under parametric amplification conditions

А. В. Белинский, Anatolii S Chirkin

A theory of the generation of optical fields in a squeezed state by parametric interaction of beams undergoing diffraction is developed. Problems related to the diffraction of a signal wave are considered and allowance for the fact that the pump wave is bounded in space. The reasons for reduction in the squeezing effect efficiency are identified and the conditions for the attainment of the maximum squeezing are found.
