Squeezing Parameters in Two-photon Absorption

Abstract

A comparison is made between exact numerical results of the squeezing parameters in single-mode two-photon absorption with those predicted by short-time calculations. Numerical calculations lead to much higher squeezing and at longer times than those predicted by short-time calculations. The value of the squeezing parameter in the limit of long times and large initial photon numbers coincides in both calculations, as well as in the limit of long times and small initial photon numbers.

Squeezing in Multiphoton Absorption

Paulina Marian

The conditions for obtaining squeezing by single-beam multiphoton absorption are examined. For an initial coherent light the amount of squeezing is calculated in the second order of interaction time using the master-equation formalism. A limit formula for the amount of squeezing is found in the case of an initial strong coherent beam. The results are compared with the exact numerical calculations and some remarks are made on the short-time approximation in multiphoton absorption.

Simple Analytical Formulae for Squeezing in Unsaturated Two-photon Absorption

A. Bandilla

By summation of the short-time expansion, a new expansion in decreasing powers of the initial photon number is obtained that gives simple analytical results. In this paper these formulae are applied to calculate the squeezing effect due to two-photon absorption and to discuss the mechanism of its generation.

Aspects of Two-photon Absorption of Squeezed Light: the CW limit

Christian Drago, John E. Sipe

We present a theoretical analysis of two-photon absorption of classical and squeezed light valid when one-photon absorption to an intermediate state is either resonant or far-detuned from resonance, and in both the low and high intensity regimes. In this paper we concentrate on continuous-wave excitation, although the approach we develop is more general. We calculate the energy removed from an incident field for typical experimental parameters and consider the limiting cases when the photon pairs are narrowband or broadband compared to the molecular linewidths. We find an enhancement of the two-photon absorption due to resonant contributions from the large squeezed light bandwidth and due to photon bunching in the low intensity regime. However, in both cases, for the parameters we choose, the one-photon absorption is the dominant process in the region of parameter space where a large enhancement of the two-photon absorption is possible.

Quantum statistics of single-beam two-photon absorption

H D Simaan, R. Loudon

The effects of two-photon absorption from a single beam of light on the statistical properties of the beam are considered. Simple expressions are obtained for the initial rates of change and limiting steady-state values of the mean photon number and degree of second-order coherence of the beam. The general time dependences of these properties of the light and of the complete photon probability distribution are evaluated for several initial types of beam. The physical significance of the results is described, and their relationship to calculations which use a classical representation of the light is discussed.

Squeezing and photon number in the Jaynes-Cummings model

Mark S. Hillery

It was recently shown that large amounts of squeezing can be obtained in the Jaynes-Cummings model by choosing the initial photon number to be large enough. A general property of squeezed states can be used to derive the complementary result that for small initial photon numbers the squeezing that is produced will be relatively weak for all times. It also illustrates the fact that for some quantum effects to be substantial, large photon numbers are required.

Generation of Nonclassical Light by Unsaturated Two-Photon Absorption

Goggi Madhavi Latha, Meenakshisundaram Sripriya, N. Ramesh

In this paper, we investigate the distribution statistics of photons in a single mode radiation field subjected to two-photon absorption (TPA) and the factors that contribute to squeezing and antibunching of photons, leading to the generation of nonclassical light. TPA is a nonlinear optical phenomenon in which the atoms interact with the light field by absorbing two photons simultaneously. The motivation to study TPA is the recent intense activity on nanocrystallites/quantum dots. Further, it is the only nonlinear optical phenomenon that can be analytically studied. The simultaneous occurrence of squeezing and antibunching is studied with small initial photon numbers by solving the master equation for TPA of a single mode radiation directly by numerical integration, without going through analytical procedure. The results are compared with those of analytical/numerical procedures available. Further, the discussion on the parameters of squeezing and antibunching for short-time (ST) as well as long-time is done comprehensively in the present work by taking up the ST approximation and summation of ST (SST) procedure along with the exact numerical method.
