Abstract

Schemes for preparation of optical qubits represented by any chosen Superposition of number states, in particular the vacuum and single-photon states. arc studied. The schemes enable truncation of an input light to qubit states via linear or nonlinear processes thus are referred to as the linear or nonlinear quantum scissors. The basic propertics of the schemes are discussed.

Optical qubit generation by state truncation using an experimentally feasible scheme

Şahin Kaya Özdemir, Adam Miranowicz, Masato Koashi +1 more

Generation of arbitrary superposition of vacuum and one-photon states using a quantum scissors device (QSD) is studied. The device allows the preparation of states by truncating an input coherent light. Optimum values of the intensity of the coherent light for the generation of any desired state using the experimentally feasible QSD scheme are found.

Quantum-scissors device for optical state truncation: A proposal for practical realization

Şahin Kaya Özdemir, Adam Miranowicz, Masato Koashi +1 more

We propose a realizable experimental scheme to prepare superposition of the vacuum and one-photon states by truncating an input coherent state. The scheme is based on the quantum scissors device proposed by Pegg, Phillips, and Barnett [Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 1604 (1998)] and uses photon-counting detectors, a single photon source, and linear optical elements. Realistic features of the photon counting and single-photon generation are taken into account and possible error sources are discussed together with their effect on the fidelity and efficiency of the truncation process. Wigner function and phase distribution of the generated states are given and discussed for the evaluation of the proposed scheme.

Quantum scissors – finite-dimensional states engineering

A. Kowalewska-kud Laszyk

This work discusses quantum states defined in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. In particular, after the presentation of some of them and their basic properties the work concentrates on the group of the quantum optical models that can be referred to as quantum optical scissors. Such ”devices” can generate on their outputs states that are finite-dimensional, and simultaneously use for such preparation quantum states that are defined in the infinity-dimensional space. The work concentrates on two groups of models: the first one, comprising linear elements and the second one – models for which optical, Kerr-like nonlinear elements were applied. 1

Generation of three-qubit entangled W state by nonlinear optical state truncation

R S Said, M R B Wahiddin, B A Umarov

We propose an alternative scheme to generate the W state via optical state truncation using quantum scissors. In particular, these states may be generated through three-mode optical state truncation in a Kerr nonlinear coupler. The more general three-qubit state may also be produced if the system is driven by external classical fields.
