Abstract

We consider the problem of formation and propagation of optical vortex solitons in hollow-core optical fibres filled with a cold atomic gas for the case of the Raman regime in the Λ-scheme of interaction subject to the Lorentz local field effects and in the presence of optical and atomic perturbations. We shows that the coherent optical control by pump beam in such an atomic medium leads to effective development of dynamical equilibrium of diffraction, nonlinear and dissipative processes necessary to stabilize dissipative vortex solitons. We demonstrate that the generation of acoustic waves even with small amplitudes in the fiber can quickly destroy the soliton mode.

We consider the problem of formation of optical vortex solitons in a medium of three-level atoms, taking into account the local field effects. The principal possibility of formation of optical solitons controlled by an optical pump wave under the off-resonance Raman conditions of the lambda-type interaction scheme is predicted in an optically dense medium, i.e., in a hollow-core photonic-crystal optical fibre filled with a gas of cold atoms 87 Rb.

Optical control of vortices in dense media of gas-filled optical fibers

Mikhail Yu. Gubin, A. V. Prokhorov, M. G. Gladush +2 more

The problem of the formation of optical vortices in a medium composed of three-level atoms is analyzed with allowance for local-field effects in off-resonance Raman regimes of Λ-scheme interaction. The possibility of optical control of the vortex dynamics without disturbing their stability is demonstrated in the optically dense medium of a hollow fiber filled with 87Rb vapor.

Slow-light dissipative solitons

Gian‐Luca Oppo

We employ an alternative control of diffraction based on the generation of slow-light dissipative solitons for a three-level medium in a cavity pumped by two quasi-resonant fields. Complex self-organised structures and spatial localization of light due to the interaction of diffraction and nonlinearity in optical cavities have important applications in optics and photonics, ranging from digital optical memories to delay lines. Note that conservative Raman solitons with slow-light have been observed in free propagation in a planar CS2waveguide by using the localization of a pump field.

Formation of nonclassical states of vortex solitons in optical fibers with quantum dots

Mikhail Yu. Gubin, M. G. Gladush, A. Yu. Leksin +2 more

The problem of control for the quantum statistics of dissipative vortex optical solitons when using the Raman scheme of spin-flip transitions in an optical fiber doped with narrow-bandgap semiconductor quantum dots is considered. The possibility of forming individual bounded nonclassical quadrature squeezed light regions appearing within the spatial profile of a formed vortex soliton is demonstrated.

Nonlinear control of the propagation of optical pulses in doped optical fibers

A. V. Prokhorov, N. V. Korol’kova, Sergei M Arakelyan

Results of study of nonlinear processes occurring during the propagation of light pulses in optical fibers doped with atoms of rare-earth elements under conditions of atomic coherence and interference are presented. For a three-level Λ scheme of interaction, the linear (χ (1) ) and nonlinear (χ (3) ) susceptibilities of such a medium are calculated. It is shown that the coefficients of Kerr nonlinearity and nonlinear absorption can reach extremely large values and can be negative. The competition between linear and nonlinear processes in the Λ scheme allows one to obtain compensation regimes when the coefficients of dispersion or absorption of the optical fiber material vanish. The efficient control of the optical properties of such a system over wide limits proves to be possible owing to variations in the parameters of light pulses at the input of the medium. The necessary conditions for realizing regimes with “slow” light, as well as for self-compression of a probing pulse on ultimately small spatial scales in a doped optical fiber, were obtained.

Vortex soliton in a cold atomic gas via electromagnetically induced transparency

Shun-Fang Chen, Ya-Wei Guo, Guo, Qi +4 more

We investigate the formation and propagation of vector vortex solitons (VS) and unipolar soliton (US) in a cold atomic gas with Bessel lattices (BLs). The system we consider is a cold, coherent atomic gas with a tripod or multipod level configuration. Dueing to the giant enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity contributed by electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), a vector weak vortex soliton can be effectively formed with ultraslow propagating velocity. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the characteristics of 2D VS and US can be controlled and manipulated via adjusting BLs. The results predicted here may be used to design all-optical switching at very low light level.
