Abstract

The problem of control for the quantum statistics of dissipative vortex optical solitons when using the Raman scheme of spin-flip transitions in an optical fiber doped with narrow-bandgap semiconductor quantum dots is considered. The possibility of forming individual bounded nonclassical quadrature squeezed light regions appearing within the spatial profile of a formed vortex soliton is demonstrated.

Formation and optical control of dissipative vortex solitons in hollow-core optical fibres filled with a cold atomic gas

We consider the problem of formation of optical vortex solitons in a medium of three-level atoms, taking into account the local field effects. The principal possibility of formation of optical solitons controlled by an optical pump wave under the off-resonance Raman conditions of the lambda-type interaction scheme is predicted in an optically dense medium, i.e., in a hollow-core photonic-crystal optical fibre filled with a gas of cold atoms 87 Rb.

The optical control of spatial dissipative solitons in optical fibers filled with a cold atomic gas

Mikhail Yu. Gubin, A. V. Prokhorov, M. G. Gladush +2 more

We consider the problem of formation and propagation of optical vortex solitons in hollow-core optical fibres filled with a cold atomic gas for the case of the Raman regime in the Λ-scheme of interaction subject to the Lorentz local field effects and in the presence of optical and atomic perturbations. We shows that the coherent optical control by pump beam in such an atomic medium leads to effective development of dynamical equilibrium of diffraction, nonlinear and dissipative processes necessary to stabilize dissipative vortex solitons. We demonstrate that the generation of acoustic waves even with small amplitudes in the fiber can quickly destroy the soliton mode.

Generation of nonclassical light and quantum nondemolition measurement by optical fibers with a spatially periodic energy exchange between two modes

A. P. Alodjants, G.A. Jeiranyan, Sergei M Arakelyan

The generation of nonclassical states of light in optical fibers with a spatial beating of the energy for traveling modes is considered. The effects of quantum squeezing and correlation of photons for two types of optical fibers, i.e. for tunnelly-coupled (dual-core) and for spatially nonhomogeneous fibers, are studied. It is shown that in the field of ordinary CW He-Ne laser at intensity of 100 W/cm2 the suppression of quantum (vacuum) fluctuations of one of the field quadrature components may obtain of a value about ten percent. The possibilities of experimental realization both of suggested scheme for the squeezed states generation and of carrying out of quantum non-demolition measurement are discussed.

Nonclassical Light Generation in Quantum Dot Microlasers: Toward Integrated Quantum Photonic Sources

Sahil D. Patel, Frédéric Grillot, Weng W. Chow +4 more

We numerically investigate the generation of nonclassical light in semiconductor micropillar cavities containing quantum dots (QDs), focusing on quadrature squeezing. Using cavity-QED, equations of motion are derived for an inhomogeneously broadened QD distribution that is incoherently excited and subjected to an injected seed laser field. Steady-state solutions are obtained and used to determine the quadrature variances. We identify a narrow parameter regime below the lasing threshold where squeezing emerges in the amplitude quadrature, with variances falling below the vacuum limit.

Nonclassical correlations in damped quantum solitons

Eduard Schmidt, Ludwig Knöll, Dirk-Gunnar Welsch

Using cumulant expansion in Gaussian approximation, the internal quantum statistics of damped soliton-like pulses in Kerr media are studied numerically, considering both narrow and finite bandwidth spectral pulse components. It is shown that the sub-Poissonian statistics can be enhanced, under certain circumstances, by absorption, which damps out some destructive interferences. Further, it is shown that both the photon-number correlation and the correlation of the photon-number variance between different pulse components can be highly nonclassical even for an absorbing fiber. Optimum frequency windows are determined in order to realize strong nonclassical behavior, which offers novel possibilities of using solitons in optical fibers as a source of nonclassically correlated light beams.
