Abstract

For the first time to our knowledge, a dressed spontaneous parametric four-wave mixing (SP-FWM) process and fluorescence (FL) signals in hot alkali atom vapor are demonstrated in both theory and experiment. First, by scanning pumping fields, Autler–Townes (AT) splitting in SP-FWM and two-photon suppression dip in FL are observed. Then, by scanning coupling fields, single-, double-, and triple-dressed effect on those signals is demonstrated, such as suppression and/or enhancement of SP-FWM signal and suppressed two-photon emission peak of FL. The interaction effect between dressing fields on SP-FWM and FL signals is also observed. Such investigations can find potential applications in multichannel narrowband long-distance communication.

Seeded spontaneous parametric four-wave mixing and fluorescence of Pr3+:YSO

Huaibin Zheng, Changbiao Li, Huayan Lan +4 more

We demonstrate the seeded spontaneous parametric four-wave mixing (SP-FWM) process associated with the fluorescence signals of Pr 3+ :YSO both theoretically and experimentally. For the first time, the dressed SP-FWM processes are observed by self-dressing and/or external-dressing in this crystal. Various possible amplification processes are discussed by selectively seeding various multi-wave mixing (MWM) signals. Two contributions of the dressing effect and the dipole–dipole interaction to the linewidths of the SP-FWM signal and the conjugate signal of the seeding MWM signal associated with the fluorescence signal have been distinguished. In addition, the Autler–Townes-like (or Autler–Townes) splitting effect of the fluorescence spectrum induced by itself (or external) field and the mutual interaction between two fluorescence signals are investigated which are well explained using the presented theoretical model. Such results can find potential applications in all-optical communication and optical information processing on a photonic chip.

Dressed four-wave mixing and multi-order fluorescence signals

Huayan Lan, Heqing Huang, Haixia Chen +5 more

We mainly investigate four generated four-wave-mixing (FWM) signals, and second- and fourth-order fluorescence (FL) signals, simultaneously in a cascade three-level atomic system of sodium, in which dual electromagnetically induced transparency windows are used to enable transparency of the generated FWM signals. The moving and immobile two-photon dressing effects on the FWM and multi-order FL signals as well as the interaction of dressing effects are studied. Furthermore, we investigate the spontaneous parametric FWM signal and spatial images of the transmitted probe signal modulated by the cross-Kerr nonlinearities effect of the dressing field both experimentally and theoretically. The study may find applications in all-optical communication.

Multidressing interaction of four-wave mixing image in three-level atomic system

Suling Sang, Huaibin Zheng, Zhiguo Wang +5 more

We demonstrate different dressed processes of four-wave mixing (FWM), as changing the powers of the probe, pump, and dressing fields, respectively, in ladder-type three-level system. It is demonstrated that scanning detuning of the dressing field can lead to the direct detection of the dressing effects and the interaction between the dressing fields, compared with scanning that of the probe field. Moreover, by respectively controlling the powers of the dressing, pump, and probe fields, the enhancement and suppression of FWM signals can be switched sensitively. Meanwhile, the spatial splitting in y direction of FWM signal due to the cross-phase modulation and electromagnetically induced gratings is observed, respectively. Such nonlinear signal with switchable enhancement has potential applications in optical switching, optical communication, and quantum information processing.

Interplay among multidressed four-wave mixing processes

Huaibin Zheng, Yanpeng Zhang, Zhiqiang Nie +4 more

We report our experimental studies of interplays between four-wave mixing (FWM) processes in multidressed two- and three-level atomic systems. The Autler–Townes splitting of the FWM signal within the electromagnetically induced transparency window has been experimentally observed. Under the same experimental conditions in different energy-level systems, the dressing effects strongly depend on the dipole moments of the transitions, which can provide an easy and qualitative way to determine the orders of magnitude of the effective dipole moments for different transitions by comparing the FWM suppressing effects.

Dressed spontaneous parametric the four-wave mixing process in Pr3+:YSO crystal

Changbiao Li, Zihai Jiang, Yaling Tian +4 more

We investigate fluorescence (FL) and spontaneous parametric four-wave mixing (SP-FWM) signals in V-, Λ- and N-type energy level systems by changing the frequency detuning or power of the dressing field in Pr 3+ doped Y 2 SiO 5 at 77 K. The lifetime of the two kinds of signals has been calculated, and the desired experimental results have been obtained. We successfully control the intensity and lifetime of fluorescence and SP-FWM signals by changing the power or frequency detuning of the dressing field. The research has potential applications in optical switches and all optical communication.

Dressed Gain from the Parametrically Amplified Four-Wave Mixing Process in an Atomic Vapor

Zhaoyang Zhang, Feng Wen, Junling Che +4 more

With a forward cone emitting from the strong pump laser in a thermal rubidium atomic vapor, we investigate the non-degenerate parametrically amplified four-wave mixing (PA-FWM) process with dressing effects in a three-level "double-Λ" configuration both theoretically and experimentally. By seeding a weak probe field into the Stokes or anti-Stokes channel of the FWM, the gain processes are generated in the bright twin beams which are called conjugate and probe beams, respectively. However, the strong dressing effect of the pump beam will dramatically affect the gain factors both in the probe and conjugate channels, and can inevitably impose an influence on the quantum effects such as entangled degree and the quantum noise reduction between the two channels. We systematically investigate the intensity evolution of the dressed gain processes by manipulating the atomic density, the Rabi frequency and the frequency detuning. Such dressing effects are also visually evidenced by the observation of Autler-Townes splitting of the gain peaks. The investigation can contribute to the development of quantum information processing and quantum communications.
