Abstract

We report the experimental demonstration of generation of twin sub-Poissonian beams by using a conditional preparation technique. By this simple technique, we generate twin sub-Poissonian beams with a quantum correlation of 4.0 ± 0.2 dB between two sub-Poissonian beams of 4.0 ± 0.3 dB noise reductions from two sets of initially independent twin beams, each characterized by intensity-difference squeezing of 7.0 ± 0.3 dB.

Conditional Preparation of a Quantum State in the Continuous Variable Regime: Generation of a sub-Poissonian State from Twin Beams

Julien Laurat, T. Coudreau, Nicolas Treps +2 more

We report the first experimental demonstration of conditional preparation of a nonclassical state of light in the continuous variable regime. Starting from a nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator which generates above threshold quantum intensity correlated signal and idler "twin beams," we keep the recorded values of the signal intensity only when the idler intensity falls inside a band narrower than its standard deviation. By this very simple technique, we generate a sub-Poissonian state 4.4 dB (64%) below shot noise from twin beams exhibiting 7.5 dB (82%) of noise reduction in the intensity difference.

Preparation and measurement of tunable high-power sub-Poissonian light using twin beams

Hongxin Zou, Shuqin Zhai, Juan Guo +2 more

Widely frequency tunable bright sub-Poissonian field preparation has been experimentally achieved with quantum-correlated twin beams in the continuously variable regime. The noise of the sub-Poissonian field is reduced to more than 2 dB below the shot-noise level throughout the entire wavelength-tunable range of 7.4 nm. A maximum noise reduction of 45% (2.6 dB) is observed. The statistical distribution of a sub-Poissonian field is also obtained.

Optimal sub-Poissonian light generation from twin beams by photon-number resolving detectors

Marco Lamperti, Alessia Allevi, Maria Bondani +4 more

We generate nonclassical conditional states by exploiting the quantum correlations of multimode twin-beam states endowed with a sizeable number of photons. A strong relation between the sub-shot-noise correlations exhibited by twin beams and the sub-Poissonian character of the conditional states is experimentally revealed, determining the optimal conditions for sub-Poissonian light generation.

Sub-Poissonian-light generation by postselection from twin beams

Jan Peřina, Ondřej Haderka, Václav Michálek

States with sub-Poissonian photon-number statistics obtained by post-selection from twin beams are experimentally generated. States with Fano factors down to 0.62 and mean photon numbers around 12 are reached. Their quasi-distributions of integrated intensities attaining negative values are reconstructed. An intensified CCD camera with a quantum detection efficiency exceeding 20% is utilized both for post-selection and beam characterization. Experimental results are compared with theory that provides the optimum experimental conditions.

Quantum noise reduction by beam coupling in photorefractive media

I propose a new approach to generation of sub-Poissonian twin beams. A perturbative analysis shows that frequency dependent redistribution of fluctuations between photorefractively coupled beams results in output beams with sub shot noise intensity correlations.
