Abstract

Widely frequency tunable bright sub-Poissonian field preparation has been experimentally achieved with quantum-correlated twin beams in the continuously variable regime. The noise of the sub-Poissonian field is reduced to more than 2 dB below the shot-noise level throughout the entire wavelength-tunable range of 7.4 nm. A maximum noise reduction of 45% (2.6 dB) is observed. The statistical distribution of a sub-Poissonian field is also obtained.

Generation of frequency-tunable twin beams and its application in sub–shot-noise FM spectroscopy

Haibo Wang, Zehui Zhai, Shaokai Wang +1 more

Widely frequency-tunable quantum-correlated twin beams have been experimentally demonstrated. The noise of the intensity difference between the signal and idler beams of the twin beams is reduced to more than 3 dB below the shot noise limit (SNL) throughout a wavelength-tuning range of 5.6 nm. A continuously frequency-tuning range of 2.8 GHz appears around the center wavelength of 1041.506 nm, where the maximum noise reduction of about 5.3 dB is observed. The tunable twin beams are used in frequency modulation (FM) spectroscopy of Cs 2 molecules and a spectrum with a sensitivity of about 4 dB beyond that of the SNL is obtained.

Conditional Preparation of a Quantum State in the Continuous Variable Regime: Generation of a sub-Poissonian State from Twin Beams

Julien Laurat, T. Coudreau, Nicolas Treps +2 more

We report the first experimental demonstration of conditional preparation of a nonclassical state of light in the continuous variable regime. Starting from a nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator which generates above threshold quantum intensity correlated signal and idler "twin beams," we keep the recorded values of the signal intensity only when the idler intensity falls inside a band narrower than its standard deviation. By this very simple technique, we generate a sub-Poissonian state 4.4 dB (64%) below shot noise from twin beams exhibiting 7.5 dB (82%) of noise reduction in the intensity difference.

Observation of high-intensity sub-Poissonian light using an optical parametric oscillator

Jerome C. Mertz, A. Heidmann, Claude Fabre +2 more

We report the observation of high-intensity sub-Poissonian light using the correlated ``twin'' beams generated by an optical parametric oscillator. The intensity fluctuations in one of these beams are reduced by a feedforward correction mechanism that monitors the intensity of the second beam. The observed reduction in noise power is up to 24% below the shot-noise limit.

We report the experimental demonstration of generation of twin sub-Poissonian beams by using a conditional preparation technique. By this simple technique, we generate twin sub-Poissonian beams with a quantum correlation of 4.0 ± 0.2 dB between two sub-Poissonian beams of 4.0 ± 0.3 dB noise reductions from two sets of initially independent twin beams, each characterized by intensity-difference squeezing of 7.0 ± 0.3 dB.

Optimal sub-Poissonian light generation from twin beams by photon-number resolving detectors

Marco Lamperti, Alessia Allevi, Maria Bondani +4 more

We generate nonclassical conditional states by exploiting the quantum correlations of multimode twin-beam states endowed with a sizeable number of photons. A strong relation between the sub-shot-noise correlations exhibited by twin beams and the sub-Poissonian character of the conditional states is experimentally revealed, determining the optimal conditions for sub-Poissonian light generation.
