Fiber optical implementation of the Deutsch-Josza algorithm

Abstract

A robust method for manipulating multidimensional quantum information encoded in time bins in optical fibers is demonstrated. This is illustrated by implementing the Deutsch-Josza algorithm, but this also applies to the Bemstein-Vazirani algorithm and, with slight modifications, to other quantum computation problems (such as the distributed Deutsch-Josza problem) and to multidimensional quantum cryptography.

Fiber-Optics Implementation of the Deutsch-Jozsa and Bernstein-Vazirani Quantum Algorithms with Three Qubits

Edouard Brainis, L.-P. Lamoureux, Nicolas J. Cerf +3 more

We report on a fiber-optics implementation of the Deutsch-Jozsa and Bernstein-Vazirani quantum algorithms for 8-point functions. The measured visibility of the 8-path interferometer is about 97.5%. Potential applications of our setup to quantum communication or cryptographic protocols using several qubits are discussed.

Protocols for Quantum Communication

Serge Massar, Patrice Mégret, Marc Wuilpart +2 more

We show how the techniques developed for long distance quantum key distribution in op-tical fibers can be used to demonstrate other quantum information processing and com-munication protocols. We present a fiber optics realization of the Deutsch-Jozsa and Bernstein-Vazirani algorithms. We describe a method, called ”error filtration”, for re-ducing errors in quantum communication channels, and present an experimental imple-mentation thereof. We discuss the cryptographic primitive of string flipping, and present an experimental implementation which has higher security than achievable using any classical protocol.

Cluster-state quantum computing in optical fibers

Yasaman Soudagar, Félix Bussières, Guido Berlín +3 more

A scheme for the implementation of the cluster-state model of quantum computing in optical fibers, which enables the feed-forward feature, is proposed. This scheme uses the time-bin encoding of qubits. Following previously suggested methods of applying arbitrary one-qubit gates in optical fibers, two different ways for the realization of fusion gate types I and II for cluster production are proposed: a fully time-bin-based encoding scheme and a combination of time-bin and polarization-based encoding. Also, the methods of measurement in any desired bases for the purpose of processing of cluster-state computing for both these encodings are explained.

Manipulating time-bin qubits with fiber optics components

We propose two experimental schemes to implement arbitrary unitary single qubit operations on single photons encoded in time-bin qubits. Both schemes require fiber optics components that are available with current technology
